Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
Right now trying to decide between Behotec 180 kerostart and Jetcat 180 or 200.
User friendlyness is critical, this would be my first turbine.
I will have help from experienced jet modelers.
Any other options are welcome.
Thanks.

RE: Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
unless you want to wait for the P-200 SX to become available I'd suggest the P-160 SX for the throttle response over the 180/200. the 160 is more then enough power although not over powered, it flies great with it.

What is the power difference between a Titan and a P-160?

RE: Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
Rhino powered Lightning.
Note: This was an older version with the little black ECU. This year I installed a new Rhino that seems to have quite a bit more performance. The video is with the old motor.

Some folks there tried talking me into stuffing a P200SX in my new Skymaster Viper, but I decided a P160SX was enough

RE: Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
we got the p-200 on stock at the moment
we also flew the UL it is ok on a P-160SX BUT if you want air dominance go for a P-200
these new ones have clearly almost the same acceleration as its p-160SX.
Carsten the P-200 is a Mans turbine , you are right dont put it inside the viper sissy boy
drink some apfelkorn mixed with carlsberg , then do your purchase
grows hair on your chest
i believe you once told me a real man weights over 0.1 tons is that correct?

Anyway, the 200 is 800 gr more than the 160, and the 160 can be used in many other airframes....argh, I keep finding excuses not to put the "Big block" into the Viper....
Hmm, you have mail....

Next question: Do you own an Ultra Lightning? Have you ever flown one?
Next question: Do you own an Ultra Lightning? Have you ever flown one?
never had the pleasure of stick time on an Ultra and while i love the way the standard flies, i won't own one because i absolutely despise the way the thin tires look on the Lightning (that's why i have the Flash instead), it reminds me way too much of those locals who have 27" rims on a 77 cutlass, fugly doesn't even come close to describing it. maybe some day we'll have Ultra wings and stabs for the Flash.....[8D]

RE: Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
3DJ,
We have a large number of JetCat users at our field, as most clubs do. Most seem to work well, with the exception of the 180. It is interesting to note that the comments so far from the guys who have a lot of JetCat experience mention the 160s and the 200s, but not much on the 180s, even though you specifically asked about that. You can probably read between the lines. One local flyer had repeated issues with his 180, and eventually swapped it out for a 200. Now a very happy camper.
I've gone "off the reservation" with two Wrens (a 54SS and a 160), which are both very very nice, and now a Behotec JB180 Kerostart. I have flown the 54SS extensively, the 160 several times, but have not flown the 180 yet. I have run it on the test stand. I was very impressed with the smooth startup, throttle response, and overall quality of the motor. I selected it because I wanted a 180-class motor but was uncomfortable with the track record of the JetCat 180 as I saw it at our field (admittedly only one data point, but backed up with comments from others posted in public), hence the Behotec. I also was curious about the Jet Central Mammoth, but it's not out yet. The JetCat 200 and the Olympus were my other choices. They are both fine units (and the Oly is just awesome!), but larger than I needed. The 180 thrust in a 160 case size with the JB180 gives a nice light motor, but I hope it does not compromise reliability. Public reports seem to suggest it is fine. We shall see. I'll bet it would really light up a Kingcat!
I was initially skeptical about the ECU on the Behotec, having never seen one before. I know JetCat has the reputation for the best/most functional ECUs, and I have seen them work very well, and I am very comfortable with the Gaspar ECUs on the Wrens, which are very simple and work quite well. But, after setting up the Behotec motor and using it, it looks to be a very nice and very flexible ECU.
Can also report great experience with Peter at Altecare .. fast service and great communications.
I'll report my experience with the motor once it is flown, but you can find a number of reports on it here on RCU if you take a look around.

RE: Ultra Lightning, which turbine?
I have already 80 flights with my Ultra Lightning and P-160SX.
I'm really happy the way the UL fly and the performance with the P-160SX is great.
Even the "power hungry" manouvre like a rolling loop can be performed.[8D]
But..........................................
Last week my friends UL maiden his UL with a AMT Netherlands Olympus HP and to be honnest the performance was very spectaculair!!!
Especially the vertical performance. The airframe could handle the extra weight easely.
Tonight we tested a new P-200SX, what a beast and what a great combo it will be together with the UL.
I think I'm gonna swap the P-160SX for the P-200SX or AMT OLY!
