RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
Ok I though too that it was a little bit too small inside this plane.
I am waiting mine next week.
Thanks again

Yes. It is a little heavy but works fine and will never fail.
We have kits in stock and could ship to Norway if you are still not finding one.

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
My Inspiration has now flown and it does seem to be pretty good I only managed one flight today as one of the nose wheel steering cables broke and I could only turn right on the runway. I'm using the recommended throws and my CG is at approximately 180mm , or slightly further forward. The ailerons were too sensitive for me so have been turned down, but other than that the controls seemed harmonised. With the recommended landing flap the model tends to float on in very light wind, so I may increase the flap, or the up aileron a little more. Apart from a couple of clicks of up elevator on normal and some more down on take off and landing flap the trim seemed to be in the ball park. The weather wasn't that good with low cloud and mist, so setting up had to be done at a lower level that I would have liked.
I'm using a Booster 80+ and that started so easily even with no priming of the fuel lines and I really like the on-board EDT rather than having to plug in a remote box. The motor runs very cool in the model, even after having the model stationary for some time during range checks and run ups.
No real issues were found during the build, although it would have been good if Graupner had allowed for a UAT in the equipment bay. Mine is siliconed to the inlet duct. Like the Flash, the wing does tend to touch the by-pass duct, but not by much and will not need modification.
The Behotec gear, which is air up/spring down works well and their small retract/brake valve, although tricky to set up with a minimal amount of servo throw, does do the business rather well. Now that I have to replace the steering wires I may try the Graupner method of tensioning the wires with a tyrap, as I couldn't get on with it when I tried during the build and resorted to rubber bands pulling up the wires.
I'm using an MX22 fitted with the Futaba module, which gives me 12 channels and I've fitted an Orbit Power Jack to the 6014FS Rx, which makes fitting the servo leads easier and sends out 5V to all channels. A Powerbox Sensor Switch with two 3700mAH Lipos feed the Rx, so I should get many flight from one charge and haven't had to add any lead to the nose.
So overall the Inspiration does seem to be a good model, the kit is very complete, of excellent quality and the build is very quick. I look forward to many more flights in better weather.

Four more flights on the Inspiration today, 30 flights in all and super reliable as expected with Behotec gear, JetCat P70 and JR DSX-12. I had intended to experiment with flap angles to reduce the down needed with flap, but it flys so well, I've left it as is. Fast and slow this is a nice aeroplane, inverted spins with a change to up elevator wind in nicely!!

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
I had some more flights on mine today at a misty, damp and cold Honington and am slowly getting it dialled in, although the CG is still too far forward for me and I'm going to move the batteries around to push it back a few more mm. With the Booster 80 now turned up to 163K it's vertical has improved compared to where I started and I think knife edge flight will require virtually no mixing. I have increased the flap throw to about 60mm and up aileron with flap by another 2mm, which has helped to slow it down and I've also reduced the aileron and elevator throws from the recommended settings for my flying style. Like Dave's model, the Behotecs are performing well and the Booster has been reliable. Role on some warmer weather, or at least clear blue skies, so that I can really enjoy it without my fingers freezing.

Just picked mine up and I have to say short of being turn key this has gone to be one of the most ARTF jets I have ever seen. Fantastic quality of finish on everything. Looking forward to getting her in the air.

Dave, me too, although I'm away during March I could not resist making a start and have the canopy finished already, (not that there is much work). I also took the opportunity to give it a blue tint....turned out ok. I think maybe if owners were looking for extra fuel capacity than maybe the rear canopy area could provide some volume.

Nice touch Rob. I will send you some photo's of the engine mount for the bypass, these have to be extended forwards, so that the mounting points are not lost!
Are you going to be using the kero start merlin 90?

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
we are also building one.
and we are just making a brand new gear for it.
no need for Resizing the hole or any offset .
the wheels clears the flap servo , and its level with the wing , causing the flow of air over the wheels.
the oleos, are based on the Intro oleo,s , but we cleared some material off so that the wheelsinks a bit further inside
we use 70mm wheels for the mains.
behotec C-36-1 (air in - spring out) or C-36-2 is possible.

Great move Sandor as the wheels are currently quite proud of the wing surface and can't help increase drag. When will these units be available?

otherwise you need to send your wheels and brakes over to us.
how much are they sticking over?
whats your final weight?

I have AT legs and their 75mm wheels, that are about 8mm proud of the surface, measured at the axle. The dry weight of the model is approx 7.9Kg.

I got some more build time on mine after finally getting back from the Gulf, these are my solutions to Merlin 90 mounting and fuel tray.

Wow that should go well Sandor, I had also planned a 140 for mine, there will be some wait though I think as the first units are just starting to ship. Maybe the 90 will be more than enough?

Sandor
Sent you a PM about rookie link gear... sorry... back to the inspiration ...
robrow I like your fuel mount..very compact with no long fuel lines..keep an eye on the festos with the short lines... it get stressed a bit... keep pushing them together to be safe until confidence is high..

Thanks Goose, the short runs of tubing with Festo links seem to be OK, I will keep an eye on them.
It would be nice to hear from people flying the Inspiration regarding their bypass ducts...are you using it complete or partial?...ie just the lower half and/or the connecting duct from the fixed bifercated intake ducts?
Also is is necessary from a rear fuselage temperature point of view to cut some cooling ducts in the lower rear fuz behind the wing as in Dave W's pic in post #51?

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
Hello,
I would like to install a Jetcat P80SE in my Inspiration. It is a reliable and cheap turbine and as you know, I love jetcat (LOL).
What do you think about this choice ?
Thank you for your advices

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown
been flying the Inspiration last weekend
my experiance
the Crow as suggested has little or no effect on landing speed (to fast)
i will raise the ailerons to 5mm upwards
will use more deflection on the flaps from 45mm to 65mm
more down mixing in elevator (stock is fine but doesnt do much)
funny thing is it behaves the same as the big ultra lightning.
i changed the Expo to 40% (JR) and deflection on the ailerons to 10mm more then enough.
the recomended elevator is just fine as is.
CG recomended 180mm i still find it to be to much forward i will move it backwards to 170mm.
the Merlin 140 performes awesome , take off 30 meters.
i got about 5 minutes on flights with the 2 liters of fuel.
still had fuel on return.
extremely nice performance , little coupling but it think its the cg.
had to trim it also a few clicks up.
with the Merlin 140 it is extremely low noice since you use only about 50% of its potentional.
you can hear all the wind whistling between the intakes and fuse openings to give you a idea of the noice level.
BTW i did not make any extra cooling intakes for the aft fuselage temps where fine as is.
and i use the full ducting.
so everyone who has to decide.
it is a very nice airframe , extremely easy to build
very complete.
but i exchanged the thrustpipe with a 200 gram lighter one (titan).
settings recomended will work ok , but for landing it does not come close to what i can do with the flash.
but i am sure will work that out also.
nice work Composite ARF!
