turning 50 soon. My eyes and memory are ok but I can see the forgetfulness creeping in. I hope I remember to keep flying during a flight!!

RE: C-ARF Flash Build Thread for All Flash's being built this winter
getting closer to the finish line here, final setup in the radio and plumb the tank lines, is anyone using the supplied felt clunks? or going with heavy standard clunks? finished the air tanks and lines, lost .5 psi overnight with the gear up, assuming I won't ever be flying that long. hoping for maiden this weekend.

No, they are very restrictive and on Big Block engines they cause cavitation.

kinda thought that would be the answer I would get, finished up the tanks tonight with large brass clunks.

I tried them on two planes. they dont work well at all. big heavy standard pointed clunk best, like Dubro/Todds/BV...etc.. I tried to use the felt clunk on my smoke as well to keep it from sputtering and it wont pick up the last 1/3 of the oil. so...

Interesting, on the other Flash thread David W. was saying how well the felt clunks work. He did say not to use them in both tanks but okay to use them in the main tank. Not looking to start a debate but he is from the UK. Maybe the air is different over there

The real problem is in the design of the main tank for the Flash. With the long flat bottom it makes it a bit tricky to pick up all of the fuel out of the main tank. The wide flat bottom also increases the probability of sucking some air when fuel gets low. I solved both problems by adding a sump to the rear of my main tank. This also brought the capacity of my main tank up to about 96 ounces. The tank can still be removed from the rear in case of any future problems. I fly with a Jet Central Rabbit and with this tank setup typically fly 8-9 minutes and land with a reserve of 25 ounces or so. Now I just need to get around to plumbing that wing tank for smoke!

Here is a progress report on my Flash. Installation pictures might come in handy for anyone doing there install. Engine is a JC 120SX,
I am using A 123's for the ECU, and the JR 122.
From what I have read keeping these batteries in the side pockets will require some weight in the nose. I might have to put the 3 cell 123 in the nose if it is needed when I balance the model.
I will be changing the pick up in the main tank to a metal clunk also.

where does it look like you will end up for cg? I am using a 4400 2s lipo for the ecu and either 2600 relions or 5200's if I need the nose weight. interested in what you come up with.

RE: C-ARF Flash Build Thread for All Flash's being built this winter
so what are people using for batts? I just pulled the 5200's out of the nose of my F-86, one showed 7.93 the other o? hooked it up to the charger and showed 7.99 volts and is charging normally right now, kinda worrysome there for a moment. will give them a thorough cycle. the 5200's will fit on top of the pockets and strap down with no problems, and the 4400 lipo will sit on top of a tray above the nose retract unit. hoping not to add any nose weight, do most need it? don't mind carrying bigger batts as I won't have to charge very often.

how much weight am I looking at adding to the nose? I placed both 5200's and the 4400 lipo in the nose and with the uat empty still come up tail heavy, around 340-350 or so, only missing a retract valve and servo, otherwise the plane is complete. what should i shoot for for a cg?
thanks Kevin

Another way to use less weight in the nose would be to substitute a TAM JETS thrust tube for the clunky one that C-Arf supplies... The Tam one is much lighter!!! I did this in my Ultra Lightning and it worked great ( no lead needed)

i ran my UAT attached to the intake air duct, only weight in the nose was the air tank and a 3800 LiMg for the ECU, powerbox and 2x 4000 LiIon's sitting above the nose retract, only thing in the side pockets was the fuel pump, no lead needed for balancing.

I have 2-2300mah A123's in the side pocekets one on each side. Then I have 2 duralite 7.4v 5300mah lith ion over the nose gear...1 for the ECU and the other for smoke & my wing tip lights .
I also have my smoke pump pushed up against the nose gear servo mount,
In the picture you can see the first yellow Lith ion there is another one infront of that. I have my CG at 370mm and I am verry happy with that.

RE: C-ARF Flash Build Thread for All Flash's being built this winter
ok, got everything installed, uat full, got the 4400 lipo in the left pocket, the 5200's above the nose retract, and the fuel pump at the very front of the left pocket. just made 360mm with the smoke pump installed and right about 365 with a 4 cell nicad for the smoke pump. from what I've read, 365 seems to be just about right. came out right at 22 pounds and did not have to add any lead. will post a few pics tomorrow.

I had an analog Hitec servo in the rudder. I left the rx batt on overnight by mistake and next day the rudder servo was dead??? Any suggestions for a replacement servo for flash rudder????
