RE: JR12X or FUTABA 14MZ
I think the comparison should be JR 11X or the futaba 12FGH or 12Z...
As the JR 11x is everything the 12X SHOULD have been!....
THe futaba 14mz is a class in it's own...
I am going with the futaba 14mz.... will have to save, but I am hoping it is the last transmitter, I will ever need to buy...
Flipside, the only thing mission on these HIgh end radios: Telemitry
THe FUtaba 14mz willl mearly need a module and a Software update. JR will need a ENtirely NEW RADIO....
I still thing that Eagle tree is a bargin at 300$...considering Hitec has a sensor telemitry pack that costs, 250$....
and you are limited...
I just think FUtaba should lower the price on there 14mz....
It was created when comuter harware was still very exspensive and tricky...NOT so anymore...
They are most likely trying to recope the initial cost of the radio..as it was probly quite costly to invent...

The JR/Spektrum system IMO is a good system, its just not able to be used by everyone, its too prone to bad instalations and battery power problems.

Your last paragraph is a total contradiction.Bad installations and battery power problems are a no no for any radio/model application foamie to turbine,Spektrum to hitec etc. This is a RC jet forum so we are talking turbines and EDF's here.Nobody should have a bad installation or battery in these models. With the latest batteries both Lipo and A123 and power boxes/regulators etc nobody should have a bad installation or battery, the best is available to all of us.We have come a long way from a 4.8volt 500mah nicad rx pack of old.To get a JR/Spektrum to brown out the rx voltage has got to drop to around 4 volts. If any one lets that happen with the batts we have now then best to take up tiddley winks.I have tested my A123 2 cell packs on discharge and at continuous discharge of 5 amps it takes 15 minutes for the voltage to fall below 6 volts. Most installs will have 2 packs for rx so plenty of capacity with good voltage available as there is no way you should pull 5 amps in normal flight. My Comp-Arf Hawk with 8 digital servos only uses 400 mah per 15 minute flight so I could have at least 8 flights with my set up.There are no bad batteries or installations only bad modellers!!!!
Getting back to the original topic, yes the 14MZ has more function/mixes than the 12x,and much more with online upgrades. It is a superb radio so I have just bought one,it is also 30% more expensive than 12x.The last Futaba radio I had was the 9 Zap when I stopped pylon racing in 2002.I have used only Spektrum/JR since then with no problems at all.I am not changing camps as I will continue to use my DSX9 and DSX12 in my current models. As I am a model shop owner and flyer I thought it best to get knowledge of both brands so the 14MZ will go in my new Flash which should be finished soon. Many customers ask me "what do you think of the Futaba Fasst system" well up to now I could only say sorry i have not used one so I can't help.NowI should be able to give an honest opinion.First inpressions of the 14MZ are wow what a radio.Basic set up is very easy but the Futaba manual is not as easy to understand as the 12x manual when you get the the more complex fuctions..Because the 14MZ is so complex I am trying to get my headround everything it will do.Going on to the 14MZwebsite and FAQ's helps but just reading the answers takes some getting used to.The new Futaba vidio's on Youtube (101) so far will help newbies to this radio.

More a statement of fact than a contradiction, the 100's of posts on RCU and elsewhere concerning the problems being experienced by some with the Spektrum/JR equipment cannot be denied, Total lock outs, Brown outs, Unbinding, some of these people are very experienced modelers and it seems that instalation has a major impact on these problems, A123's go a long way to resolve a lot of these, but they are not a panacea to all ills. Having flown 3D 60cc petrol airframes with up too eight high power Digital servo's on board each capable of pulling 4amps from the battery when wacked into the corners I do not take chances with my power systems, the whole point is some people seem to have problems with the operation of the Spektrum/JR system, personnaly I have had the Rx's unbind from the Tx for no reason, and this was not commanded from the Tx, for these reasons alone I would not recommend the JR12X until JR come up with a more substantial fix then a couple of bigger power leads into an Rx and switching back on faster once brown out has happened.

RE: JR12X or FUTABA 14MZ
Hi Carlos,
Congratulations to Your new Futaba 14MZ. I have one myself. It is a great radio. I use latest software in mine. Hope Futaba will not release any new T-18 radio on monday... Well sooner or later there will be a new high end radio from Futaba but 14MZ will still be modern many years. Some things I do not like with the 14MZ: not enough mAh in the transmitter battery (I have because of that two batteries with me while flying), balance point for neckstrap is designed for the metal antenna mounted so with the 2.4 GHz module it balance bad, sticks was to soft for me so I changed to Futaba heavy duty springs, the 14MZ Futaba manual is not that good but it is rather easy to find information to even the most demanding programming tasks on internet so it is no big problem really.
