RE: FEJ F86 1/5 Build and Review Thread
Hello all
I am new to this thread. I just picked my bird up form my great friend Doc Yates today. I must say it is a nice big bird. Doc did some extra detail work to it to dress it up a bit more an I will continue in this endevor. I do have a question for any one out there. Will the skymaster cockpit fit in this bird. I was just wondering if any one has tried this yet. I am also looking at adding Dan Gill's scale parts for the speed brake openings as well. Just wanted some other thoughts on this.
Thanks
George

Gearge, the two planes are very different in size. Most components will not interchange.
I hope this helps. I used the FEJ cockpit and did a liitle dress up on it and it came out great. There is video of it on the FEJ site. Easy to do to make it look great.
Good luck with it. They fly great!!

RE: FEJ F86 1/5 Build and Review Thread
Andy,
After flying my large FEJ F18 at Sun Valley and being blasted for side stepping the certification process, I had my flying privilege removed for 2 months. The Sun Valley board members also decided to not initiate the revoking process of my turbine waiver to AMA, but to require that I have a turbine waiver holder watch over me for 3 more months and that they need to sign off after each flight. I needed at least 15 succesful flights in that 3 month period.
Well just after getting my mig 29 back from Kentucky Jets, I ventured out to Sun Valley Field. It was a hot day 105-to 106, and just after take off on my first left bank she stalled at full throttle. I shut engine off but the mig caught on fire and burnt to a crisp anyways. It was 100% loss. So what was the point, my spotter said nothing, gave me no indication of a problem, is a very respected pilot, and when it was all said and done, states that I stalled it. No empathy, no responsibility, no friendship. The whole situation gets me sick.
I think this was the beginning to the end for me. In addition to the Large F18 fiasco, there are more interpersonal relationship situations with certain club members that quit frankly make this hobby no longer worth the effort, expense and most important that I have lost that sense of friendships I once had at my own field.
So, for the mean time I am selling what I have. The F86 first, a newly overhauled AMT AT400 electric start turbine, and soon my FEJ F16.
Anyways Andy I hope your well and doing Great.
Kevin

RE: FEJ F86 1/5 Build and Review Thread
Can someone confirm what the elevator throws should be for the FEJ F86? on their website they recommend 50mm but I only can get 42mm before stressing the tail.
Please let me know what it can be set at and if 42mm is sufficient?
If you have time, please provide all your throws if you have already flown one and are happy with the performance. I plan to maiden mine next week.
thanks,
Amir

Amir,
make sure that the pivit blocks connected to the aluminum elevator shafts are not binding. Also make sure the blocks do not touch at full deflection. If they do, dremel them so the through is unabstructed. If 42 mm is all you get then on maiden make sure the CG is right on the money. It is actually slight tail heavy at that setting but will give you more authority on elevator. The max I have on mine is about 45 mm. I think you are fine.

RE: FEJ F86 1/5 Build and Review Thread
thanks for the advice.
I did dremel as much as possible to free up space for the elevator arms to move back and forth freely.
It seems that up to 42mm the elevators move without any stress. If I try to get more movement, the elevator hinges feel like they want to break out of position.
Any how, I will set it up so it is right on w/CG.
Is the CG still at 390mm?
Also, w/42mm should I also add any expo?
thanks.

You will love it! It fly's like an 86 should...easy and predictable! Use the CG and throws recomended by the factory. They are right on. I have over 300 flights on mine now and it is still going strong!
