Here are the details that Mike posted:

Just completed test flights on a new 1/7 scale FB-111A swing wing. This
is a redesign from my F-111E with a new airfoil and new wing and
stabs. The new model has swing wings, electric gear, electro magnetic
brakes, and pivoting pylons. Weight dry is around 17 kg. The model
uses a single Behotec 180 engine mounted on one side with a slight
thrust tube offset.

Glad to answer any questions. I will post some photos of the competition version of the plane in the next week or two. After testing I am completing a little extra detailing before I batten it up. All things being equal the plan is to have it at Top Gun next year. There are some photos of the practice plane, and the cockpit on the lets talk about ardvaarks thread. If there are any particular areas of interest let me know.
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike I guess one question is do you think after all your test this will be a kit that is available to the masses

Very nice job by the way, Dave

Hi Dave,
Mibojets is going to proceed to kit the 111. All the molds are complete as are the formers, landing gear and jigs. I would think that it will be available by Spring.

I received a few requests for shots of the landing gear. I am attaching a couple photos. I will try to post a video on youtube and link it showing the gear operating.

There is a definite bump when the speed brake deploys, and a slight trim change when it comes back up. The elevator is programmed for slight trim changes to deal with this, but it is not all that necessary.
Here is a link to youtube with a short video of the main and nose gear.

Many thanks in dvance and congratulations for your great model.

Regards from Spain.

Carlos.

The landing gear is electric using a maxxon motor with a gear box built in. It works as a jack screw actuator. The main gear articulates around a central angular bracket with a folding center piece and is held to the sides with hydraulic shock arms. The plates are trussed and articulated to fold in as per the original aircraft. There is a micro processor that senses a current spike when it reaches the end of travel and shuts off. It also controls the voltage to the electro magnetic wheel brakes. Voltage is varied to allow a full proportional response. A second processor also handles the sequencing of the door, with independent positions for the door in the gear down and up positions since the door must open with gear down and then only partly close. Door actuation is with a pair of 8911 servos. The nose gear uses an electric motor in place of a conventional air ram, but is otherwise similar to a conventional nose gear mechanism. I will post some pictures of the mechanism. Unfortunately I am out of Bangkok until the 21st, so I can only post after I return.

I think going electric on the retracts is a good idea Mike. I am thinking of making the retracts on my A-6 project electric as well. I was going to contact Lado R4etracts and see if they would be able to retrofit a set of their linear actuators to fit the gear I am having made.

Looks great!!!...

This reminds me when I last saw a real one up close at an airshow in Millington TN...I was amazed at the complexity of the main gear so I gave a look up into the wheel well for a closer look...What amazed me even more is when I looked up into the wheel well of the mains there were three or four small kids that had climbed up in there, hanging by the bundles of wires and standing on some of the various hydralic plumbing!!!...[:@]...They were hiding from some of their friends...I alerted an MP standing not too far away and he extracted the kids with a very healthy scolding to their parents...Either the kids must have damaged something or a thorough inspection for damage was made due to the fact that there were several mechanics working in the mains wheel well for the duration of the airshow...I didn't go back to ask....[X(]....

Hi Kevin,
I will check the wheel well for kids when I get back to the work shop, they could affect my cg.

Hi Dave,
My apologies I did not reply to your post. I suspect the price will be similar to the A-10. The mechanics in the plane are expensive to produce. The swing wing results in a cg shift aft when the wing is fully swept. The trim change is not severe. I initially experimented with weighting the wing tips to allow for an aft shift at full sweep and found it was not necessary. A slight preprogrammed trim change when sweeping was sufficient. When the wings are fully swept the plane flies much faster, turns need to be wider and more gentle. At 1/2 sweep the plane flies like a very hot sport jet.
