Default AirWorld Panther (UK)

I've been lucky enough to guide this project through from the acorn! When Richard Johnson bought his first turbine model I told him it would open the flood gates and he would need more! He's now just about to start Jet five!
The Panther chosen as a good scale platform, JetCat P160SE as power and his trusty JR radio for control. It's fitted with the best equipment, Powerbox, Jet Tronic, JR Digitals. No short cuts (it took the first flight on a 9 channel DSX-9 radio which restricted the set up to convince him he needed a DSX-12)
The learning curve has been steeper on this model, as people know AW don't do instructions and he made a few mistakes on things like turbine positioning in the duct (no air gap!) and accepting a few things because he didn't have the experience to know better. We sorted these all out and the final two check flights I performed yesterday were faultless, a credit to his efforts. Hopefully we will have it at CJ on friday.

Worn the knees out on several pairs of trousers trying to sort that one!

Cheers,

Dick

PS...that Panther is gorgeous! There's something about straight winged jets with tip tanks that does it for me!

Normal Chalgrove weather when the rest of the country is rubbish! I'm going to build a house there one day, next to the main runway ;-)

I've had a word to Dick, hope I have not used up all my favours

dave, i had an airworld panther. the horizontal stabs delaminated and the elevators blew off. it was the one i bought from ali. happened on the fourth flight. so keep an eye on the skin on the stabs. i bought another kit from airworld, however it came missing the inner flaps and bypass. i also, wanted to purchase the sliding canopy kit. 6 months of trying and getting 30 or 40 unanswered emails i have all but given up. the panther has been ready to paint for 4 months but no parts and hardly a reply. i love the airworld kits, their detail and size. however, with the no support i have recieved i may never buy another. sure would like to have their hunter or 100 but i will have to think long and hard about it first. barry

Hi Barry
You should have said... I have sent a personal email about the matter, and will be in touch when I hear back.

Barry

We have sold 7 Panther kits in the UK, 6 have flown that I know of, plus Ali has sold a few, not seen any problems here-unusual for an AW product. The only composite models (quality) I've seen delaminate has been squeezed and the front edge cracked. Also this model is not flown hard, scale only, nothing full throttle straight and level.

AW ordering support is always painfully slow, but their models are normally worth the wait. I'm sure Ali can kick AW into life over here

dave, ali, all help is appreciated. my stabs delaminated in level flite while flying in formation with another panther. it was powered with a p160 jetcat. speed was moderate at best. what happened is the skin delaminated around mid stab back to the flex hinge. next, about half of the stab blew off. the flutter was so violent that the screw backed out of the sevo on the remaining stab and i lost elevator control. funny thing is, once the servo arm was off the splines, the screw stopped backing out. it didnt fall all the way out. the servo also didnt have a serated washer, which would have helped. all i coud do was shut down the turbine and steer the model with rudder and ailerons. i did try to level her out before impact by lowering the flaps. the airframe was a total loss, everything else survived. saddest day in my 30 years of modeling. barry

Exactly the same thing happened to Dave Stephens Panther, at a public display at Hop Farm, a couple of years ago.

John, Close but.....
Dave's Panther actually stripped the servo horns after a particularly high speed pass ( trying to catch up with my Panther as it was entering loop as we were trying to fly syncro) This then caused elevator flutter which transfered through to the stab. Both elevators detached a split second later and the rest is history.
I have owned and flown 4 Airworld Panthers and am now on my second Cougar ( Very similar in design and almost identical in construction ) As Barry mentioned the Panther that he lost was actually one of my demo models ( Dirty Doris ) Which I flew, and flew very hard for a full season in the UK and overseas. I never once had an issue with it, and it was sold to Barry exactly how it was when I last flew it. So the sudden de-lamination is a mystery to me.
Barry, I am speaking to Hans at Airwolrd now and hope to have a solution for you in the next few days.
Regards Al

Ali,I stand corrected I only saw the incident and was not aware of the servo issue. I noticed, at Bickley, that Dave was flying another one. A lovely looking and flying aircraft for sure.

Nicola

Please phone Airworld, they are poor at answering emails...very poor. But telephone is OK.

If really no contact, we may have Panther canopy glass in stock. I need to look.

I don't know german , so for me it could be a problem to speak at phone.
If you tell me you have one canopy/windshield in your warehouse i could place one order .
Send me a private message with the price , please.
Thanks again
