Another new bird ready for it's first flight!!! (Dreamliner)
Hey Guys,
Finally time has come after all this wait for Boeing B787 "Dreamliner" for it's first maiden flight....They are doing high speed taxi trials now days and on one of the trials "B787's nose was lifted also!!". According to Boeing she is all ready for it's first flight now...
First flight is scheduled for 22nd December 2009, just few days from today!!!
"The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is ready to fly!
Boeing (Chicago, Seattle, Wichita and Charleston) yesterday (December 12) completed high-speed taxi tests on the first 787 Dreamliner (787-881 N787BA, msn 40690). This is the last in a series of functional tests planned in preparation for first flight. According to the Boeing press release, "Our pilots told me the airplane performed beautifully," said Mike Delaney, vice president and chief project engineer for the 787. "We're going through and analyzing the data to ensure we're ready for first flight. From evaluations we've done so far, everything looks good."
During the testing, the airplane reached a top speed of approximately 130 knots (150 mph, 240 kph), and the pilots lifted the nose gear from the pavement. Video highlights of the taxi testing will be available by the end of the day Monday at http://www.boeing.com and http://www.newairplane.com.
Taxi test is the last testing planned before first flight which could come on Tuesday, December 15, if the Seattle area weather permits.

No room for missles...that's where the helium bags for lift and lipos are for the electric engines. When they charge them, Seatle has a brown out.

Cooly, the [link=http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/p8a/index.html]P-8 Poseidon[/link] is based on the 737. So if you ordered a [link=http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/p8a/index.html]BBJ[/link]....can you get the harpoon hardpoints as an option?

I think there are a number of tests which are performed on the initial flights. Gear retraction and deployment come pretty far down on the list. I think it does occur during the first flight, but it is not the priority on takeoff.
I am sure one of the heavy metal gurus on here can comment on that fact. Where is David G.? I am sure he will know the answer.

CNN videos section has a good video of the landing. The two T-33 chase planes are cute too. But you know the landing didn't really look that smooth, what do you all think? The wings came down pretty hard when the nose wheel touched. Maybe the weather conditions could be the reason.

OK, I just read an update, Rubbermade had some technical issues with the wing flexand will consult Tuperware for further advice.......
I think the wing flex is normal and had nothing to do with nose wheel landing impact with runway... the jet is made of plastic.
