There are a few options, two companies Maffs and Axel make pilots, Maffs up to 1:3.5 scale (I believe) and Axel up to 1:2 scale.

Maffs are cheaper and good overall, Axel pilots are very expensive but are incredible, I think you can add accessories like a Rolex watch etc ;-)

Maffs:

Axel:

Couple of Axel pilots from their site gallery....

Did a design for fuel cell support platform with interlocking tabs. Had a local company do the drawing for laser cutting then glued together with a removable dragon plate top section. Lower section has wide base for plenty of contact area. Tank will have 3M heavy duty interlocking Velcro to secure tank to Dragon plateso it cannot slide and then there are 3 slots in the fuel tank support for Velcro straps to wrap around top of the jettech 6 liter fuel cell. Inside of the structure I have some 90 degree carbon fiber angle glued in at key areas. The support frame is so strong I can stand on it. It drops in like a glove.
I can fit CAT and fuel pump underneath, keep center of gravity low and partially block inlets as there have been complaints about too much air keeping gear doors open.

Getting ready to fly my tomahawk hawk soon. Am doing radio setup. Wondering if there are pitch changes with flaps down and whether I need to mix in any changes in stab trim?

Does anyone have a FULL bypass kit for the tomahawk, I have acquired one that is already built but it is using the stock setup with the stock tank, I would like to get a larger tank and also possibly a smoke tank as well. A Full Bypass would be great to solve the gear door issues.

Disco,

Full bypass system doesn't exist.

Re the door issue, simply block about 60-70% of the inlet ducts and your door issue should go away. It was proven to be a fuselage internal pressure issue that this solved. Still plenty of air for the turbine.

Roy,
Open up and change the O-ring. I had to do the same thing. the O-ring seemed like wrong size.

I'm trying to decide whether I should attempt to keep the weight of this aeroplane on or below 44ib or whether I shouldn't even try and go straight for an LMA registration.

Thanks for any thoughts

Assembling/disassembling the two fuse parts takes max 3 to 5 minutes once you have done it a few times.
Hi Carsten would you please post a picture of the wing frame that Tomahawk sells for the Hawk.

Thanks in advance

Hi JC,
I took some pictures yesterday of my frame. When packing this bird in my Audi A6 the seat next to the driver is also free

Bob

I wouldn't bother for 2 reasons. Firstly, unless you asked Thomas for a WJM lightweight kit you will find it nearly impossible to hit 44lbs. Secondly, 44lb is too light for this model. It may be 'fun' to fly but just looks wrong. Aim to be around 25kg dry minimum I'd say......

Cheers,
Mark

The biggest hazzle is attaching the nose to the rest of the fuselage. I guess from opening the car to assembled plane is around 20 minutes. I have made a very long hex driver for the two topmost screws, these I can get to thru the large inlets on the top of the fuse

Have you ordered/received it yet? If you're looking to avoid the CAA/LMA the C-ARF Skygate Hawk can come in under 20kg

Mark - No haven't ordered yet but will in the next week or two. That's a good thought - but I can't get past wanting the Tomahawk! It will be a good experience. The examiners seem like a great bunch of people and a lot of experience to impart - so can't be a bad thing.

Mark - having given your idea some further thought the Carf Skygate Hawk is going to be a better route for me so thanks a lot for the thought!
