Stan,

if you mean this one then yes:

http://www.towerhobbies.com/products.../futm0830.html

What I like about it is the simple set up - just one gain trim pot. Mounts on its side to get the correct alignment for rudder control and orientation is dependant on the servo direction/linkage which you will have to figure out on your jet.

I can dig up pictures but will be next week as I'm travelling until Sunday.

There are others that are similar that should work fine as well, we just found this one simple and compact.

Thanks PaulD,

Pictures of your trailing link install would be great.

Are the Behotec main struts 170mm?
If yes, then they should be the same as used on the CARF Lightning.

I think fleshe modified the strut doors and cover plates due to the front pivot link on the Behotec trailing legs. On my lightning I just added a small piece to cover the pivot link. The only other way is to make the strut door wider.

If I remember right 170mm is a little bit to long I think we shorten it 6-8mm

Thanks for the info guys.

Yesterday I was flying my Tutor and every time I fly it, it reminds me why it's one of my favourite planes.......

Both of my Comp-Arf Tutors are equipped with the iGyro from Powerbox and that's really helping protecting the landing gear in crosswind landings. Ou club can get extremely windy and a little help is always welcome.

I am in the process of putting a cortex gyro in my Tutor.

Trying ti figure out if the tray in the cabin is level; with the straight flying attitude of the Tutor.

Any ideas where to place the Gyro?

I guess the motor mount should be a good place to start but need to keep the gyro next to my receiver in the front cabin.

Open for ideas.

Thanks,

Stan

Hi Stan,

My Cortex is placed below the cockpit seats - this is where my powerbox and the receiver sits as well. It doesnt really matter where you put the Gyro, just pay attention to the right orientation.

Mounting instructions of the Cortex don't mention that the Gyro needs to be levelled during flight. The only important things are orientation and using the supplied mounting pads.

My iGyro is mounted under the seats and works perfect.

Hi Tuggs, and Gonzalo,

I have another Cortex mounted in an Osiris with a lot of flights.

It is mounted level with the airplane also in the proper orientation.

I was under the impression that it had to be mounted level with the airplane.

The tray in the cabin in my Tutor is not near the level of the motor mounts which by the way are not level with each other.

Maybe I am wrong in thinking that the cortex has to be mounted level with the flying attitude of the airplane.

I will call Danny at Espirit who is the US distributor and post what he has to say.

Thanks,

Stan

Yes

It doesnt have to be level with the straight flying level whatsoever. It only needs to show in the right direction as in the picture above. I am sure there is a maximum angle which you should not exceed, since you have to use the software if you want to mount the cortex in a different orientation. Just apply common sense when you mount it Btw, you shouldn't mount it next to the turbine. The bottom of the fuselage just below the cockpit is fine, assuming that your receiver is located there as well, I mean you're limited to the cable length anyways ,right?

cheers

I just got off the phone with Danny at Espirit.

He said it is not critical but it should be mounted as level as possible to the flying attitude of the airplane.

I was not going to mount it back in the engine compartment I was just using the engine mounts as a level place in the airplane to compare to the level attitude of the board in the cabin.

I guess it is not as critical as I thought it might be.

Best Regards,

Stan

Dave:
I am in the process of installing a JetCat 180 with smoke in my Tutor. I am a newbie with regards to smoke on a turbine. I have the spray tube from JetCat which looks exactly like the one in your install pictures in the manual. Do you have any pictures of your finished install of the spray tube. JetCat has nothing in their manual. Is it critical where the spray is directed and location of the spray outlet? I assume you bend the tube to locate the spray outlet where you want it.

Paul,

Everyone has their own idea of how the smoke tube should be installed. My personal experience is with the tube bent so that the exit is 1.5 - 2" behind the nozzle and the tube exit well into the nozzle stream pointing at center. If it's too far out from center, the exhaust from the turbine tends to blow a lot of the oil away before it's burnt into smoke. You need to experiment with your own installation a bit for the best results. Also recommend the mix is set up so the smoke comes on at about 1/3 throttle minimum and increases from there.

Thanks Paul:
I found a drawing in the installation instructions for the jetcat smokerpump. It pretty much shows what you said, 25 to 50cm from the end of nozzle and 5 to 10mm into the nozzle stream and spraying toward the center.

It seems to work well 1 3/4 to 2" behind. Monitor the ingress of oil, the unducted install can (does) suck smoke residue into the fuselage and I found my tail area wood soaked with oil.

Well, thanks to dubd my Tutor maidened this week. It looked absolutely majestic - large maneuvers, precise turns, just awesome. Powerplant is an evojet 160. Planning on installing a smoke system. CG was right on the manual setting, throws as well. Thank you Comp-arf!

Just noticed you are in Kamloops. Been there a few times on my way to Blue River for some heli-skiing! If the Tutor were not so big, I would bring her with me next time! Should be there again in March this year.

What are the issues you have faced with this model ? I currently have two (2) CARF Tutors and no issues at all with both of them. Landing gear could be a little bit more robust but besides that, the airplanes are holding quite well and no major problems during assembly.
