2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam
Hey Guys,
Here’s the thread for the 5th Annual Bluegrass Jet Jam to be hosted by the Southern Kentucky Model Aero Club. Over the years I think we have built a solid "down home" style meet that has had you guys who have attended in the past leaving with smiles on your face. Enough with that, lets burn some kero and drain them batteries.
June 3rd thru 6th, 2010
FACILITY / EVENT INFO:
800x50ft Paved Runway, now with smooth run off transitions, run offs are also in great condition.
Great over fly area
Free electric hookups
RV & Campsite friendly
PILOT FEES:
$30.00 - Pre-Registration (May 8, 2010)
$45.00 - On-Site Registration
FLYING TIMES:
Scheduled Flying: 8am-5pm (impound for 72, open for 2.4)
Open Flying: Dawn til' Dusk (Frequency Board) Don't forget about your night time flyers aswell, because if you have ever been to the BGJJ you know the meet doesn't end just because the sun goes down!
Corn Hole After the Flying is done? I’m sure the TN boys need a heads up to practice.
Flying Site Open & Available all week for early arrivals.
Call for Manufacture/Vendor and Pilot tent rental information.
Over 30 Major Restaurant's chains in the Hotel Areas!!
Everything is located close to the field, no more than a 10 to 15 minute drive from everything.

Roy,
It is just a few miles west (5 miles) of I-65 near the Corvette museum off of hwy 446.
This is a really fun event with lots to do and a great host club.
I am sorry but I will have to miss this one. I have to take my daughter on a high school graduation trip.

RE: 2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam
It varies from year to year but there is always someone staying out there. We won't leave you if the sun goes down either, there is usaually always something going on after dark be it flying or storys and firewalking around a bonfire, just never can tell what is going to happen.
We are about 45 minutes to an hour north of Nashville, TN and about an 1:45 south of Louisville, KY depending on how you drive right off of I-65, Exit 28.
John, sorry to hear you can't make it this year but sounds like where you will be going is a little more exciting than a jet meet so we will let you slide this time, hope to see you at KY Jets though.
Regards,
Justin

RE: 2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam
Hey guys... wanted to give every one an update on SKYMAC and the 2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam....
SKYMAC has always prided itself on offering hobbyist one of the best flying sites within 500 miles. The club has made huge investments into the property and worked countless hours keeping the presentation of our facility to be that of the finest.
As many of you know our area has experienced epic rainfall , over 10 inches in a 24 hour period. First off our thoughts and prayers are with those to our south in the Nashville TN area that were hit much harder than the southern Kentucky area. But, not to downplay the struggles SKYMAC now faces in getting our facility back into its prime shape.
Attached you will find photos taken during the flood (May 6, 2010.) and in the aftermath (May 6, 2010.).
As the Barren River crested at nearly 45 ft, SKYMAC field found itself a part of the river, lieterally.
-Many of you might recognize the road leading into SKYMAC, but the photo was taken standing at the stop sign at the end of the road looking toward the entrance gate, that is submerged by almost 3 feet of water.
-The photos taken during the flood were taken from the hill area off to the right end of the runway looking back toward the west of the SKYMAC facility.
-Aftermath photos show the damage, but do not do justice to the amount of silt/dirt deposited on every inch of our 50x800' runway and flight stations. For reference, Adam Henderson is standing beside the shelter in the main area of SKYMAC, and at the time of the flood the water level was some 6 to 8 feet above the shelter roof.
All in all, discussions are underway as to the concern of the status of the 2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam. Certainly our plans are changing minute by minute and we intend to make every effort to host another great event this year! Please, watch close here on RCU or the the SKYMAC website for details as we progress in this effort.
As of today, we are still assesing the damage done to SKYMAC park, but as you can see, not a single part of SKYMAC was spared the flood waters. Clean up is slowly beginning and repairs will be made, but in the meantime SKYMAC is reaching out to fellow fliers for your help as we work to restore the shine to SKYMAC. Support donations may be made via any SKYMAC officer, or on the club website at www.SKYMACrc.com or if you're in the area, any elbow grease you can lend would be greatly appreciated.
I do want to say a special thank you to the AMA who has already committed some funds to the effort, but we are far from having all the repairs and cleanup covered!
Thanks for your support, and look forward to flying with you all again soon!

RE: 2010 Bluegrass Jet Jam
Roger, it is greatly appreciated!! I will get an address posted asap for mailings.
We are looking at the dates right now for a less formal "event" for the Jet Jam, and more of a fun time flying for all. Keep in mind, nothing for the 2010 SKYMAC Bluegrass Jet Jam is cancelled, just re-grouping at this point for our club to see what we can for sure be able to offer come the first of June! Dont change any plans if your coming, we assure you some great flying times with friends! Probably wont be able to offer everything we usually do, but fun times are guaranteed as always!!!! and THANK YOU, just a bit of encouragment can go along way with the struggles ahead!
