*** Florida Jets 2010 Event report and photos. ***
Well, its 5.37 Am and as usual my body clock is all screwed up and I am sat in my hotel room at Linder airport ( Venue for Florida jets ) Thinking how to pass the time before the stores open.
So I guessed a little event report and photo thread may be in order...
This will be my 8th or 9th florida jets in a row. I keep saying I will skip a year and use the time to go to another U.S event, but each year I keep getting drawn back to what must be the biggest and best jet meet other than Jet Power in Germany.
This year I have shipped three models in advance. A large Skymaster Hawk, and the new Skymaster Viper 2M. These were built and tested in the Uk. I then built a big wooden crate and shipped them to Frank's workshop right on the airfield. This is something that I have been doing for the past 4 or 5 years I guess, and has always worked out great. Frank has been really helpful with the shipping and storage. He even lets me use his workshop the day before ( In this case today) To unpack, assemble and check the models before the show, and then is no end of help with the return of the models. This makes a big difference to someone like me knowing there is a trust worthy and reliable contact at the event who will look after my toys as if they were is own! Thanks Frank!
This year I also bought an Ultra Lightning as a used ready to fly model, with the sole intention of having it shipped to this event so I could have something else as a backup to fly. That has not worked out so well and as yet that model is stuck in customs somewhere in the U.S. A real downer as I was looking forward to having a fly of that model, especially as the previous owner would have been there to have helped me out with the set up and rigging.. Oh well I guess you cant win them all
I landed late yesterday afternoon and after a while at the airport sorting out a car ( The first car that Thrifty had for me looked as if it would collapse in even a strong wind ( Which at the moment Florida has in abundance) , which given my record of hire car incidents while in Florida I thought may not be the best thing ) In the end I upgrading to a battle bus which should also now be able to take my models with ease!
I met with Shui on the way down to lakeland and he took me ( Well I say took me, in the Shui sense... I paid ) For a great Brazilian meal in Orlando! Almost worth the 9 hour flight in itself.
Then an hour or so steady drive down to Lakeland where I checked into the Hilton Garden inn. A great hotel situated right across the street from Franks workshop, and as I mentioned, actually on the same airport complex that the show is located.
The plan today is to find a Wal Mart or something, go buy a few bits and bobs like a compressor, 12v battery, cleaning stuff etc. Then head to Frank's shop and start unpacking the models and rigging them for the event. Flying actually starts today, but my aim is to be ready for early AM tomorrow so no need to rush.
My great friend Dave Presta will fly into to Tampa Thursday so thats when the real fun starts, and I cant wait ( At least then he might stop calling me to see whats going on [:-] )
I will try to do a running update when I can on what's happening. Feel free guys to post any photos that you like on here, and I will try to do some from this end as well. I will also be updating my facebook page as its dead easy from my phone, but with poorer quality photos. If any of you want to see any specific photos then please feel free to ask and I will try my best to help out. For now a few photos of the models that I hope to fly this coming weekend.
Regards Al

Correct, Raul exchanged the UL for a BVM UB. A splendid example of an Ultra lightning if you ask me.
Hope everyone has en enjoyable Florida Jets!!! [sm=thumbup.gif]

No pics of flying for me today I am afraid. Today was Walmart ( Picking up 12v battery, compressor , cleaning stuff and loads of snacks. Then a half day at Franks unloading the toys and setting them up ( See photos of me taking over Franks shop)
I did hear that a bunch of guys were up at the field and flying. I also heard that the pretty strong winds made for some interesting landings Tomorrow is the proper start day, and I have my SLR charged and ready.

You mean good morning from FREEZE Jets 2010!
Ugh it's cold 39 with 34 windchill now. Should go up to 60 though.
Global warming .....ha!
Last night I saw Lewis Patton in a black parka that must have been from an arctic expedition.

And to think they had to truck snow into Vancouver for the Olympics because it hadn't snowed in nearly 8 weeks...

I was in Florida last week and it wasn't any warmer there than at home (near Vancouver). - wanted to stay an extra week for FJ but just couldn't swing it.

OK, back to FL Jets. Lots of wind I expect (having lived there) but still a welcome break from the cold for anyone from the Northeast (Rich, this means you).

P.S what were you thinking bringing your dogs in the cockpit and letting them take off
