The "First in Flight" Jet Rally was held during May 29-30 this year and will be the last weekend of May again in 2011 (it looks like the dates will be May 26-29, 2011). This is the Memorial Day weekend slot that Fentress always used. It seems to work well for many people since it's a long weekend with the Monday Federal holiday.

Thats Great news about the City of Wilson wanted the event back! However, I agree that 1. I hate to possibly see Fentress go by the way side and 2. the event to be on Memorial Day weekend. It is sometimes a bit a streatch being hte 29th is my wifes Birthday. It seems as if all of the big events have a birthday including Fly for Tots with my son's birthday being 9/19. (he was born on the Saturday of FFT last year).

Hey Anthony, I think you need to choose more wisely when you're going to have kids! BTW I gave my blessing to Robert Vess and gave up the Memorial day dates. Robert and his boys put on a really nice event, I've done Fentress for 20 straight years. I wish Robert and his crew all the luck and I would personally like to thank all the pilots who attended my event faithfully year after year, I hope to see you guys in Wilson NC, May 2011

Just a quick update...
Logging efforts have begun at W03. If you didn't hear, all the trees around the entire airport are being removed so for FIF #2, we should have wide open area for flying.
This is a few pictures of the work that is currently underway. To give some perspective to those who attended FIF #1, this is the tree line that was at your 2 o'clock while standing at the flight stations.
Also, thanks to the logging effort, it turned up my missing F-86.
Look forward to seeing you all at FIF #2

In our last talks with the airport commission after last years event we were cleared for May 27th-29th (Fri-Sun). So that should be a done deal. Now it has been asked to increase the event to 4 days. That extra day would be Thurs. May 26th and still needs airport approval. My plan is to get final approval before the end of Jan 2011.
