Hi,

Have anyone own the FEJ f-16 1:8 scale standard version? I just wonder if the standard version canopy is operational like the advance version...
Some folks said the standard version canopy is operational like the advance version the difference is just the landing gears and some folks said
the standard version canopy is not operational it is a fix canopy. I am getting ready to purchase the standard version if the canopy is operational.
Any iput is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

FEJ web site shows a functional canopy and it looks like you don't have a choice. Can always make it "manual" once you have the kit in hand.

I have one and no the canopy is not operational. Anything can be made to be operational if you have the building skills. But there is extra weight and loss of space when you do this.

No, I leave it that way. The dry weight was between 11-12kg.

I did the in flight CG test suggested by Kmart. 45 degrees going up inverted. The plane acted normal... didn't try to dive.

It had a very happy flight.

I'm starting to disassemble the F16.
Today I removed the landing gear and revised it. It is like new.

Some images for the curious.

Sorry about your misshap, that really stinks and rotton bad luck.

I too have one of these that i`m hoping to get flying for the summer although i was planning to use a p-70 in it, after reading this i`m not so sure now.

I hope your model is back in the air soon.

OK I have just bought a Fly eagle F-16 in the orange tiger meet colours second hand, but it was really cheap so I couldn't resist, its version 2 I think, as it has the modified elevator controls (dose that mean the advanced one?) it has up rated door rams too, if you hadn't guessed already this is my first scale jet and what I know about jet turbines I could write on the back of a postage stamp, but i have been flying high performance 90mm EDF jets for over three years (i have six in total) plus i have a large 120 spitfire and a large p-51 mustang, so I should have the flying capabilities to handle larger heavier jets me hopes, ok a couple of questions, what power plant would I put in this? I have always over powered pretty much all my aircrafts as i would rather have too much than not enough, what servos are good (the recommended ones) and i have been looking at the Fly Eagle Five Action Multi-function Valve, are these any good? and any hints on dos and don'ts would be great.

thanks Jim

Fly Eagle jets tend to be a bit heavy. My 1/8 F-16 weighs 21 lbs. dry. I've been flying it with a Wren SS (18# thrust) and found the take offs to be long and I was at or near WOT all the time. I wanted more thrust but didn't want any extra weight so over the winter I installed a Merlin 90. It weighs same as the Wren but puts out 21.5# thrust.

I'm anxious to fly it with the new engine but am waiting for the field to dry out and weather to improve. Check out the Merlin 90. Here's the video that convinced me this would be a good combination: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD-7i6xrXpg

The FEJ valves work fine, you will need a hi-tork servo por each elevator, for the ailerons you could use something like the DS8411 and for the rudder you will need a mini, I'm using DS3421.

The model fly very well with a 20lb engine, but now you have more powerfull and light weight options, like the jetcat 120.

If yours have the fancy landing gear it is the advanced.

A P-120 seems like overkill, and is hardly a light weight option. The bare engine weighs 0.9 lbs. more than the M90, and the installed weight difference is most likely more. There is a video of a 1/8 F-16 with a P-120 on YouTube and it's a rocket.

I guess I'll find out when I fly mine, but after flying it with a Wren SS a 20-22 pound engine seems about right and the M90 weighs about a pound less than a P-80 or JC Falcon.

What is the difference between version one and version two f-16? I know they updated the scale retracts and the ram cylinders.

I just purchased a non-advanced version one that was on sell thru troybuilt. It's the earlier style as it only has the two tanks with it and I am sure it is like 1.5 years old sitting in there warehouse.

Is there anything I need address besides the retracts, ram cylinders air leaks? Did they change something in the elevator setup?

Thanks

Hi Plautos:

Hope you can be in air soon.
How is your scale gear working?

Perfect... sometimes the locking piston jam, but nothing serious…

By the way, I did my 13TH/B flight….

Check out the video….

But it is ready to go again!! Thanks to the half fuselage I had from the first crash.

Plautos, as with the Skymaster F-16 1/8, this jet has a tucking tendencyduring a turn, when tanks are full.

What I can see on the video is that once on the air, maybe the right wing stalled making the jet to bank right, and once banked, the nose tucked to the right making it to loss altitude.

You can fix this tucking tendency with tanks full, by moving the C;G afto to 175 mm.

I lost my furst F.16 because of the same reason.

Now, my C.G is at 170mm
