George no. That Stainless has been hot but it don't look broke down. We used to make SS coils for our big textile dryers that got a little hotter than that but functionality was fine. It's the dark black on SS you want to watch out for. If you are affraid of it, make me a deal in it. I will fly it!!!!! Roy

I don't trust it when I start to see purple or Blue. I would change it.

Stick that on the side of an F-100 and it's simply "Heat Discoloration" and adds to the "scale" look. I think BVM even sells a kit to simulate that effect on their jets.

The point is that some discoloration is entirely normal. What it should be telling you is that you have a hotspot ie your turbine exhaust is probably not completely centered in the pipe. Make the adjustment and recheck, but the pipe doesn't look damaged to need replacement.

Looks fine to me, normal discoloration but no deformation or warping.

Looking at the inside there is no purple or sign of heat damage. For me still good and usable.

Ok, I'll call this education by stupid question. I'm seeing small dents, wrinkles, and creases as well as what appears to be an oblong cross section in the middle. If the biggest risk is pipe collapse due to pressure differential at full throttle, wouldn't these kinds of imperfections increase the risk of collapse? And if the pipe does collapse, loss of the airframe may very well follow. Again, just asking a stupid question.

That pipe looks fine to me, no question.

Here's an example of a pipe that's become questionable... Its from my TamJets F-16, and it was due to a PST having a couple hot'ish starts in a row. Luckily Tam turned a new one around for me in record time, and sized it to fit a new P-70 while he was at it.
