Hello guys! I made this today in something like 3 hours! Its not finished yet but it seems to me less work to actually make it than to find it.

RE: Large Scale Pilots and Cockpits
Im surprised people seems so afraid to try it! The cost of the material (blue/ pink or this fabulus yellow i have found) is next to nothing.
And say a leg doesent look as you wanted, just cutit off and glue another piece on and try again. You need very few tools.
A knife, a small drill(dremel) and sandpaper. Thats it!
1. Make a good drawing from the front and the side.
take measurements of yourself or a friend, or if you happen to have a pilotfigurine use that.
2 Cut pieces abit oversize like the Pilot is a bit overweight.
3 Roughsand it smoth and round. Leave the arms off.
4 Study how wrinkles looks, which direction the take around arms and legs and mark them with a feltpen.
5 Mill the wrinkles out with the drill and a small drillbit. I used a 3mm.
6 Now sand it smoth but try to make it uneven in that some wrinkles sick out a bit more than others.
Again take a look at pictures.
7 Paint it with a water soluble Primer
8 sand it smoth with fine sanpaper
9 Paint face, hands and such first. If you have trouble finding the proper colour take a look at makeup!
10 Paint the clothes, use at least two tones of paint, start with the darker. dont paint to wet.
then use the lighter colour but dont cover the deep part of the wrinkles. and paint "Wet in wet" meaning dont let the darker basecolour dry before you start on the lighter-
11 Let it dry and then paint some details, Use a long thinn watercolour brush. Then you dont transfer your shaking hand movement to the motif!
This is how i do it!
Try it! all that can go wrong is that you fail and spoil a few cents worth of material.

How come Blue Box isn't making their figures and cockpits anymore??? I was told that no one was buying them! So, how come everyone wants one and can't get them???
Where can you get the good stuff for 1/7, 1/6, 1/5.5 and 1/5 Scale Jet pilots and cockpits??? This is rediculous!!!

BBI pilots are hard to get, but there are other manufacturers that make pilots as well that are very nice, if not actually better ... search ebay for ( 12" pilot ) or (1:6 pilot) there are some really nice f-15 pilots up on there now, as well as some thunderbirds ones too ....

You didn't say exactly what material you used for the pilots. Yellow foam?

Its a bit like the pink or blue foam. I found it in a store in sweden about a month ago. It was so new it wasnt in their computer so i dont know much yet! I like it though.
If i didnt have the yellow i would use the pink.

with the correct patches on his shoulders! and at a reasonable price! Finally a pilot that looks great and is available!!

Yes, they have more and make them to specifications, and they cost around £82 - or £67 if you are outside the EU.

Nice work! Most folks are more interested in the clothing than the pilot itself.... clothing is the most desired item..... If you could sew, the PMs would be pouring in!
BTW, superior work replicating the accurate scale color and shape of the male nipples, they look fabulous.
