This is not an exact science since the length of your pipe will need to be taken into consideration. I would start with an ID of 3.5 - 3.75"

I've founds some more info, so I thought I'd update this thread.

Here is a drawing that Wren sent to me a long time ago I re-found, but it give various dimensions for a augmenting type thrust tube that will produce more thrust. The missing dimension is the opening of the thrust tube at the turbine end and this is 61mm for the Wren 54/70/75. I would hazard a guess and say that for the larger pipes, they ratio of turbine end opening to constant taper tube diameter would remain roughly the same as for the 54/70/75 tubes

I have also found a supplier of stainless sheet in Queensland. the sheets come in 1200x2400mm sheets, and they will cut it down if you don't want the whole sheet, so 1/2 the sheet will be 1/2 the cost.

I've just got of the phone with them so their prices as follows:

http://www.mastercut.com.au/products/shim.aspx

Thickness type cost

0.9mm

304 $250
316 $250

1.2mm

304 $275
316 $300

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

.007" (inch) is ballpark what to use. This equates to .1778 mm. You don't want to use .9 or 1.2 mm thickness.

The print does say .1 mm or .15mm thickness dependent on length so .17mm sounds right on.

I found myself needing a 3 1/4 Bell mouth. As someone mentioned earlier on in this thread... Many products are already available for other purposes.

Here's my new SS bell mouth

Hey afioretti
you better ask for a refund. The owner just called me to let me know they are no longer in business. I asked for a refund and she said she would.

Guys.. you need to make sure the bottom hole(neck) of the funnel is the correct size. Many are only 2 1/4 dia. For me.. Im searching for a bottom hole of 3 1/4.

Check the dimensions before ordering

If you are careful and do not have hot starts it is possible to keep a single walled pipe from going any hotter than a straw colour. I did some work on bifurcated pipes and managed to make one that had almost no loss. Most standard straight pipes have a significant measurable loss and bifurcated ones can be much worse.

John,

A request....could you make a PDF of your article and post it or PM a few of us that request it?

thanks
