Hi Peter.  Very nice project.  I have a couple of questions.  What did you use to make the formers for the speed brake plug and what material did you use to fill in the space between the formers?

TIA,
Kirk

Hi Kirk, I made the formers from the same alu I use for sheeting. This works quick and the filler is polyester filler, the same u use in a car body shop. At last I put 3 layers of 200 gr on the form.

Grts,
Peter

Thanks all.

Left side speedbrake is also finished, the sideplates are the next step.

The black spot on center under (picture above) is not of a marker but is a hole. There are more of these on the plug, they are water drains.

Vitaly was working with the Yak factory. He does not own the plane.
This is a true modeller project.

Peter why you finish the air brakes on the main fuse?..if you plan to make them factional maybe a separate mold would save more later rework ?

Great work by the way!

Thank Oli .

DGG, I finished them for the few details on it, my guess is that it is easyer molding it on its place. It is not that extra much work comparing it with the rest of the project .
Thanks for the compliment, I can use them for inspiration .

So after playing with alu now playing with sand , we all did this in the early days .

To make a sturdy mold for the windshield using vacuum I used a mix of sand and epoxy (1/10). It is a cheap way to make this strong, the other side is that it is a bit heavy .
First gellcoat or paint in the mold and then filled with sand.

First layer of mixed sand.

Tamp it with a piece of wood.

Almost filled to the edge.

Final layer has more epoxy in it so seal the top.

Tomorrow I will pop it out .

Not much progress, I am preparing the nozzle cone so that the turkeys will be a seperate mold. In the meantime I did some testing to make a nozzle seal from aluminium, this is much lighter and also looks great.

Underside donut.

Prepairing the wings for the last big step, have the ventrals also detailed, after that there are still many little details to make.

Forgot the picture with two scale nozzle seals. Alu looks better than plastic

Thanks Fender, I like them too .

Started with the detailing underside wing. Gladly very little screws there so riviting must go a lot quicker than the topside.

The last details for this wing. Later I will sand this area with scotch bright, than it will look much realer.

Much realer Thats impossible! Every now and again I come on this thread and marvel at your workmanship Peter! For me, this is one of those models that is outside of the realms of aeromodelling. This is reduced scale aircraft manufacture in my eyes! All my planes are toys, this F-16 is art!

Peter,

I second the comment from Ali. This is not a model as per say, what you are constructing here is a Museum replica masterpiece. You are setting a new standard in rc Jets and hopefully I can follow with the amount of detail in my project.

Great work,
J

I think Ali has his eye on this one!!!!!!!

It would look good in your collection!

A true masterpiece, one those models that it would be a shame to paint!

Great thread Peter, keep up the good work.

Thanks guys, such feedback gives me a lot of inspiration and joy . If this will be the standard for the next generation of jets there is a lot of work to do , I like doing this work .

I have two pictures of the wing, before and after sanding.

After sanding
