Default Extended Flight Times

I would like to hear from those who have jets that have extended flight times. I would prefer models that are over the shelf. Is it possible for flight times in the 45 minute range. No gliders please.

For example, I had a Skymaster Viper jet with the stock tanks( I think it was close to 200oz of fuel) and the flight time seemed to be close to 12 minutes. The plane flew great. Anybody put an extra ordinary amount of fuel on board their jet.

btw, the motor I had in there was a 160 and I wasn't haul'n the mail, just putt'n around.
Seemed like the plane could handle the weight if I doubled the fuel capacity and there was tons of room.

turbines and fuel efficiency aren't exactly in the same category.

12 in the Viper ? WOW..... mine with a Rhino and stock tanks will fly 7 minutes with some fuel left for one or two go around.

On the other hand, I do have a 47% Decathlon with a DA170 engine that can fly over 30 minutes..... none of my jets are near to that number.

Yes, i know, still would like to hear if there are any models that may have been specially built for longer flights.

The other problem you would run into is batteries.

Very true Andy. I didn't think about that. Still extra packs could be mounted.

So it seems like 30 minutes is do able though at the most.

This one in my boomer XL, holds about 200 oz, 25% of this is smoke, I supppose if I dedicated it all to kero, pottered about, and caught some thermals, that I might manage 20mins with the Wren160

To be more correct; "model" turbines and fuel efficiency aren't in the same category. Full scale turbines are extremely fuel efficient and getting more so all the time. We're basically stuck with early generation turbine technology. I'm sure it's not worth the effort/complexity/cost to adapt newer technology to model turbines but I do wonder about the turbines on UAV's, some of which have flight times measured in hours and even days.

To get significantly longer flight times with our jets, you would need a much lower thrust to weight ratio and most (Billy for sure) would probably not be happy with the performance.

The real question is why fly a turbine powered model for 45 minutes ? if you want to fly for that long, fly a prop plane and be happy.

I'd imagine Billy has a specific requirement for these extended flight times rather than a simple dislike of landing and filling up?!!

Hi Billy,
As I am just completing my JMP Hustler together with Tom`s additional fuel/smoke tank ( a piece of art !), this might be a set up to consider !
If you use this tank as a fuel tank you will end up with a total capacity of 240 oz ! Changing from fuel to smoke tank is just a matter of seconds !
And since the Hustler is a very clean and efficient airframe you could get up to 20min flighttime with some decent throttle management (and still have AMT Peggy power if desired)
At least I will try it and check out how long I can get !
see you
Hans

The Hawk Turbine consumes about 30% less than the others. It is built significally differently. The weight is a bit more also, its maybe a bit bigger but yes, best mileage! They are also more expensive. See www.hawkturbine.com
I am not a rep!

Now what you really want is a turbofan - its going to be cracked one day soon.

And Todd, Where do we find it on your site and how much? Can we get custom color schemes?

This is one of the military projects my other company, AEF produces. It is a high speed aerial target drone powered by an AMT NL Titan. just shy of 12' long, 6 foot span, 7 gallons fuel load and 400knts. Weighs in at 114lbs flight ready. It is typically launched from a Robonic catapult system but shown here on our test dolly. Aircraft flies off the dolly once takeoff target speed is achieved.
Cost is quite a bit more than our toys

And yes, if you want one we can produce it in any color scheme you desire

We also produce a long duration, heavy payload UAV. Can carry 150+lbs and fly for 22hrs.
