RE: Futura 1.9m Build

My Tx arrived yesterday after having extended its stay in the UK to go to some of the big shows. ;)

So today was the Icelandic maiden of the Futura(and Tomahawk models in general). Great day me and couple of other mates had flying jets, warm and sunny with light breeze.
First take-off run started rather slow so it was aborted and for the next one I decided to leave the brakes off... :D
No take-off flaps used(bit excited) so the climb out started rather steep with some wing rocking but no major nasties, thankfully a rather forgiving airframe!
The landing was nice and smooth, can't wait to get some more flights on her!

If you look closely on the picture below, with the horse, you can see what happens when lose grass is sitting on your intake screen.
The moldwork of the canoe is so thin(and well done) that it looked like someone had compressed an coke can, it was worse but there I had already backed off the throttle, luckily it reverted back without any damage. There is no top former in my canoe so that might explain why it went down so easily.

W.t.f is that!? he's thinking.

My caller confirming brakes. And no that's just a red jacket!

Off we go.

About the only decent in flight shot, I was up high and my mate that was on the camera does have other hobbies.

Coming down again, the landing was much nicer than the take-off.

Now for some excitement, my caller who now owns my Intro had some fun on one of his landings today. Nice and soft touch down coming up.

Hmmm, what's that black thing under it?

Ohhhoooooo. [X(]

No major damages though, we made a new pin and continued flying. The C clip groove outer rim gave way.

XL first jet I flew, Intro first jet I owned(and logged more than 200 flights on) and the Futura.

Even the Coast Guard came to check out the action.

Nice pics guys! :D

Quick question, I've been enjoying my futura for some time now, but still feel like it needs some tweaking. Where is the GC on you planes? I feel there is a lot of difference flying it with full or emtpy tanks. With the tank empty it keeps climbing under throttle. So just checkin how you're all flying ;)

Unfortunatley I land with the same weight as when I take off [:@] but my CG until now is on or just behind the wing joiner. I think it could go up to half inch further back without much problem.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build

Dom, I had the CG right on the wing joiner but needed a lot of down trim.

Funky stuff...

Well done mate, despite the fact you kept the Futura very quiet!

RE: Futura 1.9m Build

Yeah well, I bought it with the conditions that the previous owner could fly it until I collected it at Bickley.

And much can go wrong in a five month period so no sense in jumping the gun... :D

Hi Selleri,

looks really nice, both the models and the scenery. The smaller Futura is on my shopping list...but not sure which year´s.....:)

TP.

Just finished up a pair of the Small Futura"s. WE had the large ones at Fla Jets so we now have the small ones also.
Below are a few shots of Buzz And Woody Jr.
We leave on Tues night for the First in Flight Fly in in North Carolina. Hope these are as much fun as the big brothers.
I have made up a mold for smoke tanks that fit under the engine rails. Each tank holds 25oz.

Dear Bill,

Super job done! Really impressive. May I ask for few more photos from top and bottom to copy the color scheme?

Regards,

Sunny.

Can any 1.9m Futura owner out there tell me what the back end of the pipe rests on? On most jets I understand its a wood former but there isn't one in the back of the Futura.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build

Dom,

I guess there is a bracket or former supplied with the pipe that does the job - sure someone will chip in.

Converting the leaf blower to turbine then ;)

Without looking the pipe is supported by the SS trim nozzle if I remember correctly.

Ah, OK. Suspected that might be the case. Thanks.

Hell yes, because I am that tired of charging multiple lipos for one short flight.

RE: Futura 1.9m Build

So I've decided I will order a Futura soon. I love the way they look and just flat out have to have one. Since i am a jet noob and have a bit of cash saved I plan on ordering this when i order a "jet trainer" to have and build up for this coming summer/fall. What would your guys recommendations be for the right path to have success with this jet? In other words whats the best value of equipment, "turbine, airframe, ect" to interchange between the trainer and the futura? I have a dozen or so 7955's laying around and a Hitec A9 from my Imac planes i've parted out. Thanks for the help guys just trying to make my self as successful as possible without wasting money.

DominicM 12-04-2011 11:49 PM

RE: Futura 1.9m Build

If you've flown large IMAC planes and are a competent pilot I wouldn't bother with the trainer. Kit out the Futura with a P80-P100 size turbine and use the experience of your other club members who fly jets to get you up to speed on turbine operation and used to flying it on buddy box. If you want to get used to flying a 'jet' get something like a hand launched foamie EDF Habu first.

I had a thought to skip straight to the Futura. But i am a little hesitant to jump the gun. Would love to just start a Futura and P100 though... I'm drooling already.

Gentlemen,

Happy New Year!

Any ideas, where these plywood formers go inside the fuselage? None of the photos, in the CD that came with the Futura show where these go, except, perhaps the one with the half moon cut, which is glued to the front of the main tank??

Chris
