I would have thought P60's in a Y/A F14 would be perfect, it's not that big of a jet compared to today's standards and as you say, they flew well (the few that existed) on ducted fan power. You're not going to be carrying an enormous amount of fuel with P60's. A P60 is lighter than an OS91 with dynamax and pipe as well.

P60s should be perfect.. the airplane is only 1/9th scale (around 90" wingspan) and with the big flaps, it should slow to a crawl on landing.

The dcu/jetmart usa flew well on twin bees/ p60s and it was only 1/10 scale (80" wingspan)

The problem is not twin-engine operation, it's single engine operation!

I don't know what a twin turbine Y/A F-14 weighs, but I had a twin Bee-powered Jet-Mart F-14 and I just THANK GOD I never had to try to fly it on one engine!!![:-]

Good point george. Assuming the f14 came in at high 30s, the p60s may be just enough to carry it to the crash site. In which case the p80s or new 100s may be better, as onboard fuel is probably not a large difference between the 3 (assuming)

It has been a very long time, but I remember 34lbs for some reason, (but cannot remember dry or wet, but it was HEAVY when fueled and really noticed it if you picked it up), while the Bees were putting out about 14-14.5 or so pounds of thrust each. It flew great with that power, but doubt I would get it back on one.

I would have to guess the Y/A would weigh more, but I don't know. Mine also was taileron only, so it was about as light as it could get as a twin. I would seriously debate the use of P-60's.

Fuel for the 100's or P-60's would be the same, you can throttle back...but not forward past the stop[X(]
The P-100 is almost P-60 length, perfect for this and other jets. I had a CARF Eurosport with 2 x P-60 and it was OK, and did fly on one engine! but 27lb of thrust is not enough for fun!

Last year I finished my Yellow F-14 turbine conversion powered by a couple of Jet Central Falcon's, some 22lbs per engine. David Shulman flew the two test flights with wing sweep and all. Plane was very stable, no flying issues except for the lack of space for fuel. We used all of the room in front of the swing wing mechanism for fuel tanks. He landed at the 4 minute mark and we found one ounce left in each tank. I can't recall the size of the tanks, my plane is in Miami and we are up in New Jersey, but they were custom made by Gary Mueller at Jet-tech. You could add external tanks like the real one and/or use more efficient engines. I have not decided the next step, could be smaller engines or electric conversion. But it does fly very well and fast!

With the new crop of engines coming out (smaller w/more thrust), I think you could probably have a vey nice set-up.

That seems to be the largest problem with these small turbine f14s. Their just isnt enough room for fuel. Even my big 1/7th is going to take some unique shaped tanks to get allot of fuel on board.

Bob Fiorenze recently built one with twin 10s 6500 Vio Fans.
It flies outstanding with maybe 12 pounds of thurst per side installed.... so I think twin P-60s would fly it great

Man, what a nice looking jet. Love the spoilers! But if it had turbines it would be awsome. I guess I'm just not into the EDF on scale jets.

They haven't made it for 10+ years.. its always "it'll be ready next year". I sent them an email over a year ago, Inquiring about them possibly going into a partnership w/ my F-14 project but never received any response (Not really surprised).
