Picked it up last night from Phil :) Thanks Phil it looks great even in the day light ;)
I managed to make a start on the paint wash, I use a light wash on the dark and vice versa. I started by cutting the finish back slightly for a more worn feel, then applied the light wash, worked it in while the paint dried then wiped back with a dry cloth and finished with a wet 1000 grade flatting pad. I'm now late for work :( |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
WOW that looks superb

RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Alex, that looks awesome! I wasn't sure how it was going to come out, but the colors all work together. Great choice in scheme.

Thanks guys :)
I started on the dark wash at the back end and have managed to get the white looking a little old and worn, a few areas need touching up but happy with how its starting to come alive. |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Alex, that's looking really great! Can you share a little more detail on the product(s) you're using and the steps in its application? Looks like it may be cleaner than artist oils and mineral spirits?
Thanks! |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
This is really starting to cook. Looks fantastic. I love the subtle details and weathering you are adding. I like that this is this is a unique scheme, too. Well done guys, the inflight shots should be even better :D

RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Thanks for the comments guys...
I use water based products for the wash, I'll do a short video for you but I'm on Family duties now for Christmas so progress will slow a little. Cheers, Alex |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Ive managed to finish the wash on the fuz, there are some areas to touch up but I'll do this once the wings have been done. I made a short video on how I do the wash the video isn't very professional but you should get the idea.

RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Great video. When you thin out the tamiya acrylics do you use the tamiya thinner or water?

RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Thanks alex. Great video.
Can you give more details about the sanding paper you use, which type and grit. Thanks again Ziv |

Thanks for encouragement on the video front guys, I'll do a few more... Glad you found the photos on my Facebook page interesting Eddie keep popping back as I'm going to do a few builds exclusively on that page. Hopefully a large 104 and something interesting for myself :)
Hi Jeremy, I just use water, the Airfix acrylics and those Warhammer paints work well also. Hi Ziv, I use Abralon sanding pads, a used 600grit to start (be carful with a new pad!) Then 1000grit, 2000grit, I also use 4000grit when preparing to apply decals but I'll explain that in another video. Hopefully these photos will upload this time. Happy new year. |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Hi Alex happy new year!
Do you use water with the sanding pads or is it dry rub? Can you please write a short protocol for this procesdure in steps 1. 2. 3. etc. Sorry for the bother I just do not want to make a mistake with the paint... Thanks, Ziv |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
Hi Ziv, will do...
What model are you going to wash? Whats the finish, this technique will only work on satin or Matt finishes, if its gloss then oils will have to be used. I'll include more info in the next video. Cheers, Alex |
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
That pilot figure is pretty intense! :) He captures a dramatic moment and feel for your jet much better than any other figure I've seen.
|
RE: A4 Skyhawk build
He's animatronic as well :)
Here's one last video on my technique for doing paint washes. http://youtu.be/81fnWrUufqE |
