T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
I am still pondering getting a jet. I have always liked the lines on the T-38, F-5 and F-20. What kits are out there and who makes them? thinking of a K-80 or so for power.
|
RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
Not much out there for the K-80 size. FeiBao makes a small F-5 for P-60, K-80 might be a little too big for it. The JetLegend F-20 will definitely not fly well on a K-80, mine was decent on a 160.

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
well i could always step up to a larger turbine if needed. I just liked the price of the K-80. I will look at the jet legend one

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
If you like to build there is a Byron F-20 kit for sale in the classifieds.

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
If you don't mind going up then I would build a Skymaster F-5/F-20 and put a K-140 in it. That thing should haul the mail!! Saw the RCI demo plane fly with a JetCat P-120 in it and it was fun. I have been thinking about doing the combo as a fun plane!

Or, go man-sized and put 2x100s in the Tomahawk Design F5 :D

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
If you squint a bit, the CARF flash looks sorta like an F-20. You can order the white one and paint it, or pay them to paint it up for you......The K-80 would be a nice fit for it too!

There are JL F-20, and FB F-5 (1/6, 1/7) to choose from at our shop www.globaljetclub.com I recommend 1/6 with K-140 or P140, or Cheetah
Personally I like the F-5 better. Got one in our Irvine showroom if you want to stop by and check it out. This is the one I have. I like the desert paint scheme. Saw a full scale one at Miramar a few months ago. Mike |

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
Hello,
I was thinking of the posibility of purchasing one skymaster F-5/F-20 for my M-100 Jets munt turbine. Do you think it will fly well or it will be short of thrust? Thanks |
RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
How much thrust is this M-100 ?
Just about to finish a Skymaster T-38, comes out at 24 Lbs dry... |

Hi,
Airworld Modellbau has a F-5E Tiger scale 1:5 for larger 12 Kg turbine or more http://www.airworld.online.de/Englisch/Index.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8_WzFieeFo I saw one Feibao (I think it was) P-120 F-5 at a Swedish Jet meetingin summer 2010, only on ground andit was not flying, the finish wasgood. It had Simjet 3000. It was for sale, I tooktwo pictures of it (see below). /Bo |
RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
Bob Fiorenze still advertises his T38 and it is very good scale project. Selling mostly as electric ducted fan now but a P60e would also work very well.

Bob Fiorenze's phone number is 407-230-1088
He usually keeps a couple of kits on hand. |

HI Maj. Woody,
Yup, you are right. just don't know why these thin small wings fly so well. I thought the same about the MIG21, yet the best flying machine. I just need to chase down my builder and have him finish this one for me. My second favorite paint scheme is this one. This is Mike Pope's nice flying EDF version. I am working on a 1/6 one with this Paint Scheme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1PL...layer_embedded This one is a 1/7, and the 80 size will fly it nice. Mike |
RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
The new Jetsmunt M-100 is about 110 N of thrust (24 lbs). It is made in Spain

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
thanks guys for all the suggestions i will look into all of them. this will be my first jet. i have been flying for 33 years and can fly anything. i do have many high wing loaded planes and many over the 140 range and one in 190 range. i like the F-15 but everyone has them. i dont mind build as that would save some cash. although i dont have cash to buy everything upfront doesnt mean i will put the cheap 10 dollar HK 300 ounce servos either lol. i will do it up right.
I like the Stock AF white color setup but the Beal AFB Black is nice also. As for these kits do they offer the scale retracts to go with them for those who have had one? |
RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
the ones in here post 12 and 16 have the nose all wrong. Whats up with the duckbill nose. the one in post 20 looks correct. Am i wrong on this. i thought all versions had a pointed nose?

RE: T-38 F-5 F-20 Kits
The SM T-38 is beautiful! A friend of mine has one. Still being built though. Looking forward to the first flight.

I am building the Skymaster F-20 and F-16 (1/6.75). Are there threaded inserts in the wing tips to mount the missile rails ? Are they under the glass cloth or do I have to install them?

Yo Woooooddddd!!!!! R u back on da scene? We missed you and your Ho! I've been rockin some Heavy Metal myself. Please pardon guys.....let me get back to the T-38. I'm shopping for one also. I see them darting in and out of Ellington just about every day. I'm leaning towards the SkyMaster although I prefer a twin sized ride but I don't know of any out there. I saw the SkyMaster fly at the Mississippi Afterburner this year and it did a really nice job. The owner was very pleased.

Hi Jed, I'm working on a skymaster F-5, I was wondering were did you get the mechanism to operate the canopy or did you make them yourself.
|
Frank,
WOW!! I haven't been on RCU in years and came across your question. Yes I made the operating canopy mechanism myself. The T-38 rear canopy mechanism is the same as the single seat F-5. I was able to take measurements from one that the museum in Birmingham has on display. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay-nf9RbjnY |
Jed whats up my Brother! I just asked Rich Miller about you last week. I was wondering if he had heard from you and how you have been. I have so many questions for you. Did you ever get the job with FEDEX? Did you get into that Giant Scale project you wanted to do? Do you still have the pretty F-5? I have been away awhile too but am Building a Flash right now.
|
Dude!!!,
Still flying for the same company. Flying a Global Express, Challenger 604 and Lear 40. Yep, still have the F-5 she doesn't get out much lately. I've been working on a 1/6 scale PBJ-1H, "B-25", 135" wing span for past 3 years. http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/...TID=19670&PN=1 build thread. I'm going to build a Palmer plan Cougar next, can't do the store bought stuff anymore. My cell is still the same give me a shout. Jed |
I am building the Skymaster F20. I understand there are mounting nuts in the wing tips for the missles. I cannot tell where they are. Can anyone confirm the nuts are there from the factory and do you have measurements for their location? How did you mount your missiles?
Thanks |
