The venue for the First in Flight Jet Rally is the fantastic "Wilson Industrial Air Center" in [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10994065]Wilson, NC[/link](pic 1).

This is a sprawling airport that is perfect for model jet flying since it's not very active, it's wide open in all directions, and we get to use the smooth 4500' x 150' main runway (which will be closed to full-scale traffic during the event via NOTAM) from show center!

Jorge, we know "Escalona Alley" will be filled with Migs and such!

Howdy Boys and Girls!
Just letting you know I'll be getting the Tent Rental info up very soon. One nice addition to this years rental list will be 42" barrel Fans! Jusssssst in case the weather heats up like last year.
Everything is looking good for the 2012 First in Flight event. We're really excited and already Ive had several e-mails and phone calls. The folks with the City of Wilson and the Airport Staff are looking forward to seeing you all again. We'll be posting an updated list of hotel info this year as a couple more have been built. Theyre even closer than those of last year! Joe Rafalowski and Gene Paremba are working on something VERY important to guys like me. A detailed list of Eat'n establishments! ;) There are so many to choose from they felt if best to provide you a list to look over while at the field. That way you guys can spend more time flying, and less time driving around reading signs! They'll have all that info included with the pilots registration packets.

Its going to be a GREAT EVENT folks. This event is growing fast and we want YOU to be a part of it.

Oh my!! Did you not read about Larry's exploits through the "Dark" continents and most of middle Europa?
The "National Enquirer" devoted an entire paragraph to the trip. It was on the same page with the 3 year old kid that landed a crippled airliner after the crew were were rendered unconscious by Britney Spear clones from Mars......

Dang, I missed that issue. I'll have to check around and see if I can find a back issue. A whole paragraph, wow, that's some rarefied air up there!

The rest of the Md guys and Buddy will be there with me. Steve Stricker will be there and he has been working very hard on his F-4 with Pete Goldsmith who I thi nk is coming as well again. Great place to test fly new stuff and if all goes well the Turbinator 125 will get flown there this year.

Oh,,,and youre right about Steves new F-4. He and Pete did an awesome job on that big bird. The weathering and fine detail work looks beautiful, as you can clearly see in this photo. Oh wait,,,,,,,,,, I guess you cant!!!! Actually, Jacqui and I are meeting up with him in Wilson Saturday morning to return it to its rightful and proud owner. Jacqui has had it in my shop the last few weeks fabricating a complete wing, stab, tail, and fuse bag for it. Trust me, this is one F-4 you want to keep protected with a set of J"ackie Sacks" when transporting around to all the jet meets.

Yup,,,,,,,, I just had to get in a cheap plug for her services!!!!!! ;)

Where is Wilson, NC?

It couldn't be more centrally located on the Eastern seaboard! As the picture below shows, it's about right in the center of I-95 between Boston and Miami. And it's also not that far off of the main East-West US artery, I-40. So it's an easy drive from most major eastern cities. And there's no back road jaunt to get there since it's right along the Interstates!

Georgia will be attending in force this year. Word has gotten out that this event shouldn't be missed.

We are trying to find good local restaurants as the chains get tiresome. If anyone wants to let us know of any hidden gems send me a PM. ...... And no Larry, Snoopy's hot dog stand doesn't count as a hidden gem.

Just got home from the Lebanon PA rc swap meet. A bunch of us northeast jet jocks were talking about the First In Flight event. Can't wait to see you guys Larry!

I'll be home for "vacation" during that time and will DEFINITELY try to make it down, if not just to hang for awhile!! Maybe I can "rent" some stick time to make the trip all the better!!;):D
