FEJ F-14 Swing Wing Battery?

Guys,

Ian dropped off my F-14 on Sunday and I'm working to finish it. The build looks awesome! I was wondering if I can use a 6.6v or 9.9v LIFE pack for the swing wing rather than a 2S lipo. I'm trying to minimize the use of lipo batteries.

Thanks,
DD

Ps-too soon?

The Tamiya manual for the speed controller states 6.6V - 7.2 for input but I thought I heard of some one using a 9.9. Maybe Lowell can weigh in or Bob.

Well i was told 3 cell but correct me if im wrong the speed control is only rated to 7.2volts but im guess since its for short burst it doesnt matter. Why not use a 3 cell ion it will weigh much less than the lif4 packs. I use one on my seiko servo in the 46% ultimate.

3s ion is 11.1v, correct? This quite a bit above the max rating of the ESC. Was hoping a 3S LIFE would be a good compromise since Ian feels a 7.4v pack doesn't move the wings forward with much authority.

Dave, I think I am over it until I have to charge a battery and then I get all bugged out. Funny cuz I just bought an electric car too.

What voltage? I have 6.6 and 9.9v 2300 LIFE packs. How may times were you able to swing the wings per flight?

At kentucky jets I gave B1bob a 3 cell lipo I had. His 2 cell was not up to the task I think and flyeagle told him he needed a 3 cell lipo. After I gave him my 3 cell his wings worked fine.

Gunnrad, do you remember which model speed controller her had though? I noticed that the one in the pics of FEJ's manual is not the same one that was shipped in the kit Dantley got. His is a TEU-104BK.

6.6
How many times were you able to swing the wings per flight? If the wing movement speed is marginal on the ground as Ian has stated, it's going to be really slow in air.

well like I said I was told a 3 cell lipo was the recommended so the 11.1 ion would be your choice, now that being said I have the same speed controller as you and I would hate to take be wrong. The battery recommendation was from James himself so maybe he will chime in

Ian not sure on the speed control. But I happend to be taking my plane back after a flight and herd the fly eagle guys tell bob he needed a 3 cell Lipo. I had one on my fueling station that looked like it would fit so I pulled it off and gave it to him.

Sounds like we need to see what speed controller bob is using but I bet its the same as us.

Hi All:

Yes, with complay supply controller, please use 11.1 v

using 7.4 V still can do the job on swing wing back, but won't get wing open fast during in theair. Should go with 11.1V without issue.

the photo is what we use now.

Thanks
James

i have this speed controller for 3 years and used a 3 cell on my swing wing for my F-14 and Tornado from the very 1st

James, I prefer not to use a lipo. Do you think a 9.9v LIFE will work? Moves pretty quick on the ground.

vega thats not the same speed controller we have, have u looked up the instructions on that speed controller? Ours says max 7.2 which is why we are wondering, well i am anyways.

hi Dubd:

If you use 9.9V, it works well too.

Thanks
James

Fender i looked up directions on this when i had to set end points it is not a high performance controller probably 7.2 from R/C car.. i have this pict. of Tamiya controler my Tornado had in it i new from my racing days i could go higher voltage as long as there was no binding or load on it or motor..
