I've also been back to work on my F-86 and i think it is ready to start putting some primer on it to get it ready for it's final finish. The last few pictures are my color scheme of choice.

Greg,

Are the speed brakes detailed in the plans/instructions? Nice work!

Shaun ,
This is the 80" wing span version and the speed brakes are an option that you buy and build into the plane.

Greg,

Yeah, I got the 80" part from your thread title...[8D]

Do you have any pics of the drawings or closeups of the setup you could post? I'm thinking about adding these to the little one.

More like 84" isnt it? I saw you extended the wings to match the full size you want to model... not many people notice the difference. Great job.

Hey Jack,

Sorry it is actually 86" now that you are going to get so critical about it. I did extend them by 3 inches on each tip.

I'm not critical... I actually praising your job hahahah

Wow, I did not know it was 6 inches more for the extended wing version. I wonder if you can feel that on the landings. (I'm pretty sure is negligible on normal flight)

Can't wait to see the end result. You set the bar really high with your F100, let's see what you can do with the Sabre

Have you flown one? it flies really nice

Jack G

PS: big difference between 4" and 6"... haha

Jack, i have not flown one before i hope it flies as good as the hun. I've been trying to get on the sticks of your dad's and he just won't give up the box. I'm also working on another F-100 right now to so i don't know when i'll get this one done. Hoping for next year. Just alittle teaser for you here's my new Hun in progress.

Greg, here is my 80" F-86.....sweetest scale bird in my hangar......a dream to fly....CG is on the front blade spar where Jack D. recommends.....It has the Fowler Flaps and Speed Brake and is basically chop and glide from 100 yards out. I have a gyro on the rudder, but don't really need it.

I have included a video of it last month on a very windy(20+ kts) x-wind day as you can see and hear, but still just lands like a P-Cat........160SE Kero for power but never over 1/2 throttle. except for T/O.

Our field is usually very smooth, but the drought made the weed bumps stick out......still lifts off and lands rather smoothly. All that overbanking was due to the wind turbulence over our sun-fly.....it is stable as a rock on calmer days.....

This one was built by Kirk Jensen.....excellent build and paint....Now has about 30 flights on it.

I had trouble with one of the wing tanks, so none on for this flight, but like on my Hun, they really dress it up.

I have one in the basement waiting for the time to build it from start to finish. Best kit I have ever bought bar none. I have owned lots of BVM products but none have compared to is kit. I am sure that the f-100 is just as nice but just can't get hot about the dust buster inlet. I got the fowler flaps, speed brakes, opening canopy options as add ons from my family as presents. Hope to get on it next winter as I have other commitments this one.

Tom,

That's a great video it looks like it flies great. Mine will only have a P-120sx but it should be plenty of power for it.

Nice job of flying!!!!!!!!!

Nice job of flying!!!!!!!!!

120 is perfect. We have flown the F100 with 120's a lot, and the sabre needs less power

If you ask my dad, he will tell you he feels the sabre is easier. I haven't flown it enough to decide, I know the F100 too well.

Hey jack that's all that is in my first f-100 also is a 120sx so i know the F-86 will fly great on it also.

RE: BVM F-86 80

120SX is perfectly adequate....I flew mine with one for the first few flights, but wanted the SX for my Super Bandit.....had a spare Titan SE, so that's how it got in mine......I have watched Bob Hoover airshow routines as well as other full scale Sabre vids, and to simulate scale flight takes no more than 1/2 throttle on the Titan and only a couple of clicks more on the 120......Fuel consumption comes out about the same.....8 minutes with 2-3 go arounds in reserve......

I like the feel of the Rhino in my F-100 especilly if I have to go around down and dirty with the slats and speed brake hanging out, but like the Sabre, my Phantom flies perfectly well on a 120.......

So i have put the F-100 off to the side for right now. I spent the day putting up a make shift spray booth in my basement and i just went down and shot the first coat of primer on the fuse.

Hi Greg Are you going to use the gold powder I sent you? Eric

Greg Wright 10-21-2012 04:21 AM

RE: BVM F-86 80

Hi Eric,

I still have the gold powder and i was unable to get any help from the paint people to help me figure out a way to get it to dissolve in todays type of paint. So i took it and had them scan a small amount of it to give me a close match in a color that i could use.

The parts you see sitting on the table still need to have a clearcoat sprayed onto them so i think it will darken up a little bit once i do that.

The fuse is in clear along with all the other small parts. I'm just now getting to the wings for a block sanding and filling then come the panel lines and more primer.

Greg Wright 10-24-2012 09:01 AM

RE: BVM F-86 80

I'm finally finished with the last of the colors on the fuse. I ended up doing flite-metal on the leading edges and tail pipe. Now i can concentrate strictly on the wings.

Pictures will come later when this server works again.

Greg,

great job you have done there, a lot of prep work has gone into getting a good base to start from.

What is the paint (brand, colour) and the clear coat you have used here, its turned out very well.
Its going to look great against a clear blue sky !

In regards to the eagle motif on the side, I am assuming thats a paint mask with decals for the nomenclature.

thanks,

Dale

Greg Wright 10-25-2012 02:08 PM

RE: BVM F-86 80

Hi Dale,

All of the paint is the PPG DBC base coat. The whole plane is completely done in paint. There are no decals for the nomenclature on the airplane. The only thing i had made as a vinyl decal is the flag emblem on the tail. The color for the blue is insignia blue and the red is insignia red. The white is just a base white and the gold is from a 1974/75 chrysler called Inca Gold Poly. The clear is PPG 2042. Yes i did have paint masks made for everything including all the lettering and the maple leaf roundels.

Greg Wright 10-25-2012 02:18 PM

RE: BVM F-86 80

I had the red and blue specially mixed from a paint chip card.

Greg, you are an inspiration and a truly quality builder and painter. Too bad BV hasn't reproduced his Hun in 125-150% bigger size. Can you imagine a nice BV 98-105" Hun???!!!! Wow! I would pre-order 2 kits the day it was announced ! :)

Thanks Shaz for that compliment. Maybe if i can get the two that i own to reproduce maybe they would have a giant Hun. Lol

Lock up your Hun with David Searles' Airworld Hun in a dark room (with some candles and a bottle or two of Wine) for a few nights. Hehehe! :)

As far as compliments, just stating the truth bro!

Shaz
