RE: Norbert Rauch Airliners for 2013

Thomas,

Billy from Hobby Barn here in Tucson was flying a DC-10 a couple of years ago at Speedworld, the plane suffered some damage and they are building another, anyway, the important part is that they have a MOLD for the DC-10, Billy is hardly at the shop and Bill SR. Is about the same, I don't know the name of the other person that was doing the glass work, but there have been a lot of planes for sale from them here. Sales at the store are very slow, so I don't know how things are but you can always ask, the webiste is now offline. It is the same size or just about the same size as the offering from Rauch. Honestly if you want to inquiry about it, do it through Billy

Those posts are NOT off topic at all, I very much enjoyed them. The 1/10 scale A-320 is built much like a Rauch airliner. Appropriate attention to scale looks and well finished. When I saw those custom fans, I thought "wow, those are like jumbo sized Robbe Rojet fans... this is going to sound a lot like my BAe-146". In fact, it sounds almost exactly like my BAe-146 with Rojets (formerly). I have upgraded the fans and motors now, it has 12 blade impellers and will sound a bit different especially after I put in a few other mods I have waiting and ready for installation.

Really cool! His takeoff and landing speeds are really nice with that big size and appropriate weight.

But of course .... you have to pick it up in Germany.

Last weekend the traditional airliner meeting took place again in Germany.
As usual a number of Rauch airliners were present. In the next days I will look for some links about this event.

A first short video: [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO9YSf3W888]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO9YSf3W888[/link]

Fred Harno produces excellent videos. Here's the first one about this year's airliner meeting at Oppingen:

The first A340 takeoff was scary on Fred's video - I thought there would be small pieces spread out all over and it is amazing it recovered! Would have enjoyed seeing the meet first hand. Thank you for posting.

You have to wait two years for seeing the next meet. It will be in 2015.

There's a new video from Fred Harno mainly filmed during this year's airliner meet. He introduces Michael Braeuer's Concorde. The first minutes of the video are clips from 2001 but from 3.08 it's all about the Concorde flying at the meet and you get a little impression of that weekend. Also from 7.16 an MD-11 is flying together with the Concorde.

Fred has uploaded another nice video. Germany's airliner specialist Peter Michel is flying his Airbus A340 during a flight show some years ago. The plane is not only filmed in flight but also on the ground showing some interesting details.

Excellent, I enjoy all the new information. I will be posting, hopefully sometime soon, of some of the progress I should be making on my DC-8. It has been far too long so I am looking forward to making some headway on this project.

HI Eddie,

It's been long time away from RCU and I missed it very much, Life took many turns while I was away but not things are looking very bright into future.
How is your DC8 coming along, how much progress you have made on it. As you love airliners, I love them also, my 1/12th scale Concorde is slowly taking shape, my Constellation in PIA's livery is ready for maiden flight, just waiting for next spring to come. Recently my cousin got very interested in the hobby and I got him involved, we both got ourselves Frankel Learjet 35A that we want to power as edf model and we are soon getting Rauch"s DC 10 also. It will be great to have a small airliner fleet in our collection. Pictures will be posted soon. Now would you be ok if I were to post Learjet and DC10's pictures on this thread and do build also, I don't want to hijack your thread but we can share it together if it's all ok with you.

Eddie P 02-07-2014 07:26 PM

Certainly, please post here all you want and all you can! Would love to see what you are up to. I am getting my foam cut over the next month and buying the wood. At that point I should have some progress to share as well. All the best!

Hello everyone,

An update for your airliner guys and gals. I have been working finally on my DC-8 1/16 scale. Since this is more of a thread where we can all come together and discuss builds of our own, I will post a link here for a blog post I've started regarding my specific build. Here it is:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2099800

I have ordered the initial set of cores and will be doing more work on the project as I have finally cleared my building bench of most of the other competing airplanes. So I have specifically held my impulse to buy any other "newest and bestest" airplanes out there so as to be able to concentrate on this DC-8. It has been really difficult - I had to scold myself and make a concerted attempt to not buy the Hangar9 Spitfire. Ohhh.. It could be done in a week or two, I told myself. No! I'm building the DC-8 first. Then the Spitfire ;)

Good luck everyone on your builds and in operating your airworthy projects. I will update my blog as progress is made.

I look forward to seeing the great old MrP come out of retirement to build an RC airliner. . This doesn't happen every day folks lol:D

I just started my MD-11 build. I also had to clear a space (actually spaces) and put some other projects on hold.

After pondering the various ways/options for the fuselage, I decided to sheet it via the individual plank method with 1/32 " balsa sheets. I know it is a slower process than some other methods, but I can work at my own pace and am familiar with this type of process. A few strips of masking tape simply holds the pieces down. I plan to use 3/4 oz (or 1 oz) fiberglass cloth to cover all the balsa.

I also sheeted about 1/3 of the inside of the tube/fuse before I assembled all the pieces.

Bob looking great! Hey, there are always plenty of ways to skin a cat. Your workspace looks like a real life hobby shop! Love it. Did you cut your own cores? I should have mine back to me very soon, and my shop will be FULL of airplane parts. Looking forward to it :)

Hey F3H, retirement? No way Boss, I'm still out there learning new tricks every day ;)
