A brilliant display flown by an MD-11 and three F-5 Tiger.
You don't get to see something like that very often.

Awesome!!!! What more can be said?

Wow!!!

I like to know how guys with MD11s and DC10s have hinged flaps to the wings?

I'm in process of getting scale hinges made by the help of another modeler who is making cut file for the hinges. I do plan on making scale fairings to cover the point hinges for al 3 types per wing. Since I will be making these for myself, I will make molds for future needs or if anyone else would want a set....

That looks like scale hinging. Wonder how they are made and if they are available to buy....

sandwich balsa|carbon or plywood|balsa, cut around by template, then sanding. 30 minutes for 1 peace, I think :)

Can I use 4 x Robart 635 HD retracts on NR DC10 model that will be powered by 3 x 90mm or 105mm EDF units by distributing the weight equally on 3 main?

Airliner-rc 01-20-2016 09:39 AM

635 Air - good choice Sir. Electric variant probably don't work properly with airliner (heavy) struts.

Should be fine. I am using 2 x Robart 630 85 deg converted to electric by Down & Locked for the mains on my DC-10-10 . Using Robart 530 for the nose. 43 lbs with batteries. No issues.

3 turn spin, You got a beautiful DC10 model there, is that a Rouch DC10 also. Thanks for chiming and providing the info I needed on retracts. Would like to see walk around pictures of ur model plus if you have a video of it flying....You were extremely luck to be able to get a picture with actual UPS DC10 in the back ground...

It's my own design. I believe a little smaller than the Rouch. 1/17 scale.

Hey Robert

You designed and built a beautiful model, looks lovely on ground and in air. Looks like it lands like a trainer.
Do yo u have a build thread on it or picture album where I can see from start to finish how it was built and maybe able to adapt ur methods or into my model. I also noticed you have functional leading edge slats, that is one of the hardest scale features to build on a model!. Also noted you barely had tad more flaps deployment for the landing, is that enough or did you flew in bit hotter then what I saw in the video link you posted. When I started o my project and found out about ur model, I wanted to get intouch with you, good to have connected with you now.

Give us, please, more information about power plant, batteries, ESC, weights and more, more, more :)
Very interesting! Your experience will be very useful for many people.

Thanks. Feel free to reach out anytime.

The video is from an early flight with the plane when I was still feeling it out as you tell by the lack of flair at landing. I may not have had full flaps deployed on that landing. The plane has very good slow speed characteristics and lands at about 37-39 mph with full flaps and LE devices deployed. I didn't do a built thread and really don't have too many photos of it under construction. The construction design is very similar to the Rouch kit. Fiberglass nose, engine nacelles, and tail cone. Foam / balsa sheeted fuse center section, wings, stabs, and vertical fin.

Thanks for sharing your build pictures or the beautiful DC10 model that you created My respects to you sir!

I really like how you did afterbody of engine number #2 and it's exhaust cone spike!. I would like to add that to my model when I get to that stage. Are spoilers fully functional, how did you managed to make them functional on the foam core wing?

I am leaning a lot towards Lado RS999 retracts and for rest of the landing gears as they do amazing work.

How did you built the flap hinges as they are very close to scale types?

Airliner-rc 01-23-2016 10:32 AM

very graceful work
