weight difference: J cat p-60 vs Wren 44

Can someone give me some insight on what the difference in installed weight for these two turbine setups is? Is the equip for the P-60 generally larger than the 44? Anyone here have one side by side by chance?

If the P-60 is de-tuned to 10# thrust is the fuel burn about the same as the 44?

Oh and whats the recommended inner tailpipe diameter for these two engines? ( I'm going to fab one) I assume it would be close to the same for both..?

Thanks!

Acorrding to the performance comparison chart in Jet Interntional mag. the installed weight of the P-60 with 5 min fuel @ max thrust is 6 lbs. The MW44 Gold with 5 min fuel @ max thrust is 3.75 lbs. Difference in thrust is 2.6 lbs.
Weight of engine and airborne equipment P-60 = 3.45 MW44 Gold 2.16 lbs

Hope that helps. I have an old chart so it doesnt show the newest engines but the p-60 has the poorest efficiency index of any of the engines on the chart.

The Wren 44 is a light engine. Also... over the years... there were a few ECU's used... but all of them were small. AND.. the 44 is physically smaller, and so are all the parts that come with it. (valves, Pump, ECU)

Just an FYI... my little T-45 with a WM-44 flies for 5 min with a 32 oz fuel tank... and I land with about 1/4 tank left. I could probably fly for 2 more minutes. (not at full throttle the entire time)

What model are you putting this in?

Thank you both, thats the exact info I was looking for!

Its for an F-100

Great info.
Does your chart also show the comparison the the JC Bee II?

I am building a YA Stingray. It was designed for the P60 and came with two 32oz tanks to feed it. I was thinking that if I go with the MW44 I can use one for fuel and the other for smoke. was also considering the JC Bee II, but leaning to the MW44.

So The p-60 is like 1.3# heavier total installation, but has a little more thrust. I'm wondering If the fuel consumption is close to the same with the J cat de-tuned to 10 lbs..?

If go 44 which would be the optimum engine for what i want to do, BUT i will have to buy brand new cause it seems they are hard to find used. On the other hand it seems like p-60s can be had 2nd hand pretty easy, and at 1/2 the price of a new 44. Thats not a tiny bit of money difference lol.

As has been mentioned the P60 is a very inefficient engine and as a result it will consume more fuel than a Wren MW44 with both at the same power level. As tested by RCJI the P60 has a thrust specific consumption of 0.0733 and the 44 is 0.0516 so for the same thrust of 10 lbs, if you use a tank of 32 oz for the MW44 for the P60 you will need a tank of 45 oz for the same duration. Perhaps that explains why there may be so many second hand P60s for sale and few MW44's.
