GoPro on your jet
 

I have just purchased a GoPro Hero 3+ Silver and I wanted to send it up on one of my Jets. I am sure other people will have done this I was just wondering how you mounted the camera to the plane as obviously I don't want it to fall off. Any pics would be useful

I just put the sickie mount in the belly .. It held up to 200mph no problem ..

I just mounted mine in the cockpit with the standard mounts looking forward and aft. The entertainment value I get from these videos would be to see where others fly and how their flying site looks from the air and of course to see the landings. So long video's are not necessary if you want to keep the audience interested. I break this rule from time to time. Keep it interesting by showing the pits and the people and one or two video's of a particular flying site is all that is needed unless you have a different view or a different plane that is interesting. Just my thoughts on what I like to see.

Guys these gopros are awesome, for those that used the old 808 keychain cameras, they have an improved version called the Mobius, it is about US$70-100 depending on the dealer, accessories, shipping etc. 1080P video and a decent lens now.

Here is a video shot from the $100 hobby king camera, it works very well, just strapped it to the canopy with electrical tape....

Jetflyer! Thanks for starting this forum. I just received my new GoPro this week, and was wondering how to mount it. Can't believe it will stay on with just the sticky or suction cup.......nice. I like the idea of taking the container's mount and screw it to the bottom of the jet.

mobius is excellent. Same quality as GoPro for fraction of the price. Trying mine on my 2.4m MB339 this weekend. Mounting high on the fin with TX controlled panning.

Yes I guess for some it is OK to (over) pay for a GoPro but if buy a BVM plane over a Fly-Model copy you are a sucker, or if you pay for a MacBook you are a chump??

OK, made a video, now I need to edit it. What program are you guys using to edit the videos?

I use one of the Sony Vegas products for editing normally BUT problem is if you re-render the MOV from the Mobius in any other format and upload you will lose some of the quality...so I upload the MOV raw and then use the editing features on YouTube to trim the video at start or end if necessary. Fairly good quality if you do it that way...my most recent example below...

you can also try this ...


- upload raw video to youtube ( set it as private if you want)
- after its processed use a web video downloaded ( like DownloadHelper ) to pull the video back off of youtube in the MP4 format youtube has converted it to.
- now you can bring that into Vegas for editing.



I like Vegas as well and am pretty used to it. I have lately however been using Adobe Premiere. I have an older CS4 version, but its plenty for me. I find Adobe deals with more formats , and has the ability to have its codecs updated, where Vegas requires you to keep updating the entire software package.
