JMA Top Gun Event At Merryfield U.K.

A two day event to place at the RNAS Merryfield over the weekend, with 'Top Gun' taking place on Sunday.

A very big thank you to Pat Barnes, his team, and the JMA committee involved with organising the event, this really is a great venue.
The Judges on Sunday for Top Gun - Dave Tapping, Bert Hazeborg (N.L.) Richard Spreadbury awarded the Pete Nye Trophy

Couple of interesting models made an appearance at the event, Pyms 91 Ducted Fan powered Gnat, this model is still going strong, and in its 29th year!!!!!!!
D.W.s very original CARF Classic Flash, now in its 11th year, still looks really good, and flies equally well.

And the prize winners for 2017::-

The Top Gun Trophy went to Steve Elias with his F86
Steve Elias also won the best scale with his F-86
Sports Jet award went to Steve Roberts with his Ultra Flash in a really nice Swiss scheme
Pilots choice Luke Metcalfe with his EE Lightning
The Pete Nye trophy went to Matty Smales with his Hawker Hunter
And the R.N.M.A.A special recognition award went to Steve Haughty with his F-16
Well done Guys,all the flying over the weekend was to a very high standard

Here are some of the latest flights, we managed four flights over the weekend making minor control adjustments ready for the next session where we will set the gyro gains.

Yes, it is nice to see this very impressive model of a classic British 1950s jet,flown in a sympathetic manner as befits the full size, the team from Scale Composites should be applauded for getting the model from drawing board to flight status.
The Gnat is not the easiest scale design to model, however even on this pre production example the fit and finish is very good, and the systems seem to be working as designed.
A very impressive model to see in the air, even better when the sun is shining on those yellow wings.
