Do you think a C130 would be welcome at a Offumwa Jet Show?

so I'm loading up for the first annual Ottumwa IA AMA sponsored Future Jet Rally

I know at KY jets and other there are always a few turboprop planes

Im asking because my C130 is usually a big crowd hit, and in full scale C130 are turboprop
But even at my size - 160in wing span and 74 pounds, it's still not big enough for 4 small turboprops
but the huge electric motors sound somewhat turbine
I
Do you think I would get crap for bringing it?

Heck the A1 Abrams Tank that drives out the back is turbine

what you think?

Man, that thing is really cool. And while I don't speak for the Ottumwa event I would personally say that no, just being a scale representation of a turboprop plane does not qualify it for a jet meet.

On the other hand, electric ducted fan models are typically allowed so why not an electric turbo-prop? I have no idea what kind of thought goes into these things.

Damn thats nice! Some formation flying with a couple fighter jets would look cool! :D

Id check with the CD before hauling it to the event.

BarracudaHockey 08-24-2017 05:03 AM

That would be cool and as a CD I would probably try to make a slot for you to fly it but like Bob said, I would check with the event CD before hauling it there.

Lovely model, any videos of it in flight?

Convert to a KC-130 and pretend to refuel some jets!

Yeah! It's like throwing a dice. 50/50 if they are friendly or not. Some act like it's a personal insult of their whole family if you arrive with the wrong model. LOL

Neat airplane. Hate to nitpick. Is there a reason you put the US insignia on the model upside down? Sort of like displaying the US flag upside down. Apologies in advance . I realize it's only a model.

While I think it is a beautiful airplane, I don't think it should be at a Jet rally. Contact the CD and he or she may be up for a noon demo flight or late afternoon flight for the crowd

jkeze 08-25-2017 08:17 AM

I have been a CD at our giant scale event and over the years have been asked if something can fly at our event. My answer is usually "If you have to ask you already know the answer, so don't put me in this position"

bem 08-26-2017 01:30 AM

I can not see in mikes68charger post if he want to fly his plane or not at the jet rally.
To just display a plane whatever powersource - seems strange if such plane is not welcome at a jet meeting.
To fly it at a Jet meeting may be another thing.

Thanks guys this is a great event. The only reason I was thinking about it as this event is being proposed as more than a Ky or FL jets. There full scale birds here for display, sweet 1/2 times shows with crazy full scale P51 and biplanes, there's live bands jamming on one side, it's not just rc

My favorite part of this event so far is the AMA Speed trap in the flight line, to capture the fastest and slowest speed

Right now I think it was 235 BVM Bandit.

I didnt relize it was upside down. Thanks for the heads up

they were running turbines through a speed trap, at an actual AMA Foundation event?

Bob_B 08-29-2017 01:54 AM

Yes they were. They had a Special waiver.

mikes68charger 08-29-2017 04:48 AM

It was for education. Peaple will always say my jet dose 199 but really it does 260mph. Well as hard as many tried only 4 got over 200. My Diamond with K210 (218), my buddy Skockwave(226) with new rhino, and 2 BVM Bandits. It humble many.

What kind of special waiver does the AMA grant itself for its own event?

Good Question!

sweetpea01 08-29-2017 11:43 AM

If I was the CD, I'd say Nope, but you can fly after the event is over. Its a Jet meet with Jet planes that expect certain flying characteristics. If he allowed you, then he would have to allow any prop plane. Now if I figured my attendance is low, then maybe that might sway me.....but at any medium to large event.......finding time for you is a hassle. And believe me the CD has enough hassles.
