Hi

About to start yet another Y/A F-18 Twin build for twin 140's. Alongside a BIG BIG project from Ultimate Jets (TBA).... ;)

Anyway, what are the 'in' digital servos these days? I'm a little irritated with my JR since I now have 4 8611's that have sat for a few years but are seized, NIB. What's everyone using these days?

Can't go wrong with MKS. Their HV777A+ is IMO the best bang for buck around.

Thanks! Any others to look at? Anyone else had their 8611's seize up while sitting NIB?

The MKS HV777+ is a great choice.. 562 oz/" on 8.2v with a 0.1 sec/60 degree transit. Aluminum upper casing. $120 each
The next step up is the HBL380.. 570 oz/" on 8.2v with a 0.08/60 degree transit. Brushless motor, full aluminum case, at $190 each.

I'm putting the 380s in my new 40% aerobatic airplane, but the 777+ are more than enough for most applications..

Shaun, do you happen to know that from where I could get a 1/8 center line dt for F-18C as you seem to build them all year round? ;)

Which brand pipes are you going to use for your new project? In mine, I have a pair of Tam pipes rated for P-120s. In your experience, is it nessessary to fully enclose the turbines with a carbon fiber bypass?

We're planning to install Jet Tech pipes. As for bypasses, I'm not sure yet. AMA still requires a 'partition' for twins because of possible 'cross ignition' but I think that's an arcane concern with kero-start engines. I'm not sure what the up-to-date scratch is on that but we'll see. One thing I have experienced with this particular bird is that at high speeds, there's enough positive pressure inside the fuse to push two of the main gear doors open without a bypass on twins.

That "partitioning" is no longer *required*. The safety code states:

It is recommended that multiple engines equipped with propane start be segregated or partitioned to prevent cross-ignition of exhaust gases.

So its not a requirement, just a recommendation, and its not applicable to kero-start engines.
