I would have been much happier with that, having to repaint this thing is a pain.

Well with much difficulty I have two hinges in and correct alignment!!!!!! Dang weather got cold again so nothing else can be done. No heat in the hobby trailer but I did do a quick video on the work I did yesterday. I still have to add the three middle hinges but they will be easy since the end hinges are in. I mixed up some hysol and install the hinges and waited two hours for the hysol to cure some. Then I installed the slat on the wing with the pin hinge and adjusted for the perfect fit while the hysol was still soft. The slat now moves freely like the other wing, I think after seeing how they glued in these I will do some beef up on the other slat hinges as well.
video is up on my youtube channel |
“arf”...
Exactly as I wrote here and was bashed for it ....
An ARF should be an assembly ... not a build ... We are to be blamed for the situation , until we change our forgiving attitude towards these companies forcing them to either provide what we pay for or adjusting their prices to equal the quality of what they supply , nothing will change .... frankly why should it ... the manufacturers get away with it so they keep on selling high dollar crap and we take it for gold . Would one buy a should be quality car that its doors fail , paint coming off etc’ , etc’.....????? I BET NO ONE WILL ! |
Nice work amigo, keep at it and once it’s all done this pita stuff will be a distant memory. Btw it’s a LEF ( leading edge flap ) not slat. Can’t wait to hear your impressions of the decals from Ralle at Taylor made

Go get em tiger. I just love reading Slats on every Plane that has moving surfaces. good on ya for taking time to share your experience for others to learn from.

I think my brain associates flap with trailing edge and slat for leading edge so I always say slat for everything leading edge even when I know it’s a flap.
looking forward to Waco again since it will be after I get back from Germany |
Waco will be a welcome and much needed relief. Everyone says slat amigo, mildly amusing to me.
|
But what are they on a 737

jetspud,
The Boeing 737 has both. Inboard of engine pylon are leading edge flaps and outboard of engine pylon are leading edge slats. Cheers! Desert Fox 1 |
Keep them build photos coming!!

When your hobby room is an enclosed trailer with not much heat can’t do much. I am installing the other three flap hinges atm and once done and finished I will post more pictures. I also need to re-drill the pivot hole in the carbon control arm. It’s going to be tough considering how thick it is and close to the original hole

Leading edge flap, is fixed and the wire was easy to install just like the other wing. I will make a 1mm adjustment to the very end hinge so it sets flush but other than that just more hysol and wood patching to cover the rest of the gaps around the pin hinges. Uggh and don't ask my why everything is turned 90 degrees with the pictures?

Hey Buck what is the total throw (downwards) of a C/D LEF? |
Been a long time anigo.... but from memory upwards of 30 units which I couldn’t tell you what the aoa equivalent would be. Suffice it to say, if you had pylons on the bird they have the capability to deflect nearly to the point of touching them. You can dig around and find videos of a BIT check where all flight controls move to test the system and see what I’m talking about.

Slat is done and curing about 4 grams heavier due to glue and ply addin. One hurdle completed!

Welp the leading edge flap is all good and back on the wing. The Trailing edge flaps will need some work as well but mainly sanding certain areas to finish the fitting. One will not close all the way because it hits the stop of the flap gap cover arm, but I will show that in more detail later.
Saddle tanks are next then the main, the main tank has a predrilled hole in the wrong spot and I will have to plug it and drill two more holes in the correct location. Im using the typical BVM Hi flow stuff, the brass insert is threaded and comes with a brass nut to screw on but I never use this since the tanks are not two part and you cannot install it. I always hysol the brass fittings, just remember to scuff the tank around the hole so the hysol will stick good. small things I know but only doing small things till later down the road. |
Sorry guys I have to put a hold on the build, less than two weeks till im on a plane so I need to focus my attention else where till August. Stay classy!

Stay safe brother!

https://publicintelligence.net/u-s-n...light-manuals/
Here are some manuals to the family of Hornets. I find them interesting to read and glean some info about how the full scale jet handles and functions. I’ve said for years this jet has to have the rudders kick in like full scale for pitch authority and as it happens the new large SM Bug functions this way and it works. You can find other data about surface deflection angles and flight configs too. There are some details about how the plane is painted and marked as well. I’ve read one on the F-4 and it covered the millions of stencils the plane has. Dig in! |
Thanks for the info will be useful with applying the Taylormade decals.

Thank you
Thanks to Fender for taking the time to do the thread, and we all know it takes serious time to upload the pics and do the text.
I know I am just repeating what everyone else already knows, but it is ridiculous to have to fix this many things on a fully painted, multi thousand dollar jet. SM should be ashamed to ship product in this condition. Just my 2 cents- Mike O. |
+1 Mike. Why guys keep buying terribly engineered and produced products amazes me. My plain white kit is just that....a kit. Having to rework most things on it to get it to be airworthy. Glad I got it at a bargain price, I wont pay their prices at their current level of quality.

Hi Tom. White kit is the only way to go IMHO. I have an F-5 lot and the amount of fiddling with even a simple design is crazy.
Did you order the f-18 that way? PM if necessary, thanks |
