Recciever/ECU: Life vs. Li-Ion Bats. Moest Reliable

Looking to buy for my jets new batts. But, I would like some input from you.

Thanks;

2100 LIFE, X 2, 2 switches for the receiver, 5000 mah LIPO for the ECU done..

I made the switch years ago, never looked back.

I use 2S LiFe (A123 really) on the receiver and kingtech 3S LiFe for the ECU's

Either. Buy the one that has the right voltage for your system. If running HV servos go Li-ion. If not go LiFe. If your turbine requires 3S LiFe, use that. If it require 7.4V then us Li-Ion or Lipo.

I will be moving over to LiFe for a very particular reason: their expected life expectancies are astronomical. There is even some speak that they exhibit almost no increase in internal resistance!

BarracudaHockey 05-16-2018 11:38 AM

They don't, I have some of the first A123 packs I got still in service. Cycles, high charge rates, sitting for a year fully charged, nothing bothers them.

'For all my models including those that are using HV servos: 2S LiFe for receivers (all receivers are dual supply, now either the Spektrum 12310T or 20310T) and 3S LiFe for the JetCat ECUs. They can sit forever fully charged and never swell. You do not have to worry about issues when charging (assuming you are using a proper charger). The only time I use a LiPo is for very high amp applications as electric planes and helis. I learned the most important thing about LiPo batteries is that they should never be kept at full charge for over 24 hours. Bring them to storage voltage. All my LiFe batteries whether 2S or 3S are 2500 mA, conservatively good for 4 flights.

I have been noting but LiFes for years. I dont fly often so the so low self discharge rate is a huge plus. I have two 2300 packs in the 2.6 viper and the powerbox reflects about 450Ma per flight. I even converted my air pump with Life's- The 2s 123s that I scavenged from a DeWalt pack have been on my fuel jug for about 6 years now and still last all day. Scotty

LiFe and Li-Ion all the way. Personally I prefer Li-Ion when I have the option, but most definately avoid Lipo if it is at all possible.

Cheers,

2x Li-Ion for the RX 3S LiFe for the ECU, Retract if Electric is tap on the number 2 battery with JST connector so it doesn’t drain the battery, smoke is 2s lipo (will switch that to Li-Ion eventually)

Nothing bothers them.....except if they are left plugged in for a long time to a device (such as most ECU's) that have a trickle drain when "off", or otherwise are drained completely. I recently learned this lesson the expensive way. Of course, this is true of LiPo's as well and overall I am a huge fan of A123's for the many reasons mentioned. I have been using them in my jets for years for both rx's and ecu's.

What brand of turbine do you plan to use? I have learned that the larger JetCentral turbines are marginal with the supplied Duralite LiFePo 9.9v battery. They seem to do just fine with a 3S/11.1v LiPo.

2x A123 2600's and 1x A123 2600 for the ECU-
Self discharge is almost non-existent with these cells-switching everything I have over. No Lipo for me-too volatile IMHO.

Thanks to you guys for the excellent information. I hope this benefits others as me also.

I equip all my turbine jets with A123 2500MA packs from Electro-Dynamics.
