Wow!
I would love to hear more details about this project. Quote from the article: "Built entirely from carbon fibre, the structure was made using the resin fusion process, where the cloth is laid in the mould dry, with a final layer of thin mesh known as the flow media. It’s then vacuum-bagged and the mixed resin fed in via a pipe, with a tap to control flow." So I take that to mean he built full size molds for this thing? If so, I sure would like to see pics of them. How are the engine controls managed? Servo drivers connected to each throttle lever controlling stock Jetcat ECU's, or something more exotic? What batteries is he using to drive the ECU's? Any details on the fuel system? More, please!!! |
It’s basically servo testers driving the stock ECUs we had to make special looms. There are 4 Mini GSUs in the cockpit so each engine can be monitored. Haven't decided whether we will run Li-fe or Li-Po batteries, but because the 220Rxi charges once it’s running size is not so important. Since I started flying my Mephisto back in Dec 2017 I have not charged the ECU pack. Even after a 2 month sit it started first time and by the end of the flight was back to 96% Each turbine in this is independent, the overal weight is critical to the project meeting the UK’s rules and it gives redundancy over one or two units. Yes, there are moulds, each finished wing panel complete weights less than 15kg. Dave its a single tank around 30 ltrs |
30 liters should give him just a little over 10 minutes at full throttle. Better keep the runway in sight! LOL
Very cool project! I would love to see more pictures of this. |
Once it gets to cruise speed we calculate 15+ When he started this I said I wouldn’t want to be out of sight of the airfield! Bit like when JetMan Richard Browning started talking to me I thought, crazy guy...but without these people life would be boring! I’ll keep you all posted. |
Just curious as to why 4 220 size engines? I've always known it to be 2x the engines 4x the trouble so 4x the engines 16x the trouble?
with bigger engines easily accessible why not twin AMT Nike's or the jetcat P1000's? not meaning to sound critical, I just can't imagine using 4 turbines and 4 systems when 2 would work. It is a very cool project though. |
Weight. It can’t be over by 100g and be legal to fly. When the project was started the P220 was the best option, same with Richard Browning. AMT are super thirsty. |
Yup, this is the coolest thing happening this year!
Nicely done!! |
Our Hobby on drugs !!!! Luv it !!! ;)

wooow!
Actually this would be a scaled up model of our full size hotspots LOL Love to hear more about it! Keep up the good work! .....But it does reminding a kangaroo rather a hotspot ? |
Fantastic..... it reminds both airplanes, HS and the Kangaroo.
Hope to see more of this one, as finally we can do a scale airplane that flies well and is practical too! :D |
Thats AWESOME! it’d be really cool to see one of these with the PBS TJ100 with a decent (1.5-2hr) endurance. |
Love to see more pics!

Pretty impressive..... |
