Ducted Fan Engines

Hello all u ducted fans out there. I have a question regarding DF engines. I see that they are pretty hard to come by nowadays. I recently saw a guy on youtube (Gary Flymore) who claims to have converted a marine engine (OS I believe) to work on a Byron fan unit. Has anyone out there had any experience / luck with this??? Thanks in advance for the info...

There are still quite a few engines out there. I still have 7 or 8, some new in box, some used a little, some OS and a new BVM. I have since switched to turbines so I am not using them.
An engine used in a Byron setup would need a heatsink head on it though.
I only vaguely remember there being a marine use for OS engines though.

The energy density of LiPo batteries and efficiency of EDF, and the small user friendly turbines pretty much put the axe to having to fool with tuning a nitro motor and getting 2.75 flights out of a glow plug.

Unless you have one of these combinations, stay out of DF, the research has been done for you:

-BVM .91/.96/ Viofan
-OS. 91/Dynamax
-OS .91/Ramtec

If you need anything DF related parts, contact Gary on RCG, he has anything you can think off related with DF, I'm also sure he knows his way around them.

I had the opportunity to enjoy flying DF jets and doing some kit bashing to mount a fan unit, the Balsa USA Enforcer was/is a good kit to do that.

Enjoy :)

Cool, awesome info fellas. I appreciate this a lot!!! I do have a few df setups that I want to experiment with (and just don't like throwing things away!!!) Carlos, I will give Gary on RCG a holla and see if he wants to part ways with some of his goodies. I like tinkering and just can't seem to get enough of troubleshooting. I would move on to edf, especially if I knew how to get the byron fans converted!?!? I have heard of it, but haven't seen any literature that I can really sink my teeth into, sts. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be awesome!!! Thanks...
