RE: Superman 2004 event coverage and pictures

I was sitting right at the end of the runway when the SM BAE HAwk went in right in front of me, scared the crap out of me, When they went out to pick it up, the voltage regulator was frying and the engine had shut down right before the impact. It hit with such force that all of the tanks ruptured and the fuel spray was impressive, over about a 25 foot diameter, but it DID NOT ignite. Another plane, a Kangaroo, went in on Thursday evening, again right near my vehicle. It went in pretty hard as well. Looked like it had a 2 liter pop bottle tank in it, and it did not rupture. Again, no fire. This was my first trip to Superman and we had a great time, even went down to the casino on Thursday night, trying to win enough to buy a KingCat:D. Sadly however, our lucky necklaces were not enough to pull us out of the rut we were in. There were some great looking planes there, and let me say that the guys at Skymaster were working their butts off the entire time I was there. They were on the buddy box with guys, fixing planes, selling planes, talking about planes, etc. They were great. The Hawk was on display and the interior of that thing is huge, you could stuff just about anything you wanted in there.
To me the two most impressive palnes at the meet were the AcroJet from Aeroworks, what a great smoke system and talk about slow flight...Wow!!....and the hopefully future to be relased Robart Panther ARF, which was a perfect match for the little FunSonic turbine which they are sellling. This is gonna be a great selling little airplane, hurry with it fellas......

Thanks for posting the pics, Eric and Lt Dan! It was a great time ... great job by all the organizers! I'll be back next year for sure.

No problem! Your King Cat had one of the nicest paint jobs I've seen. Who painted it? I should've asked you to pull her in the grass for some better shots but it was quite busy on the ramp!

Lt Dan, my KC was painted by Gary Hess (www.garyhessdesigns.com) He is a friend that paints NASCAR helmets and custom bike paint jobs. He is a gifted painter.

Tommy, I was about to taxi out when the BAE Hawk hit the runway. That was nasty and I bet it scared the @#$! out of you if you were right in line with it. I hated to see that happen. The ONLY slightly humorous thing about it was that David Reid saw me looking at it with my Tx in my hands at a pilot's station and then looked and saw a (mostly) red plane destroyed right where I was looking. He thought it was my KC and then realized mine was waiting to taxi out. He later came up and told me about it. Pretty funny ... I told him I would've been floppin' and twitchin' on the ground if it had been mine! Please don't take that as me making light of the incident, AirPac guys ... there was nothing at all funny about it happening. I hope you guys determine the reason so you can prevent a recurrence.

The Hawk hit the pavement right in front of where my friends and I were sitting, she went into failsafe and the turbine shut down just before impact. What a beautiful flying aircraft she was.

Not all of the nice machinery was on the ramp.

A very good looking A7 & F-20.

Anyone interested in the Acro-jet ARF from Aeroworks should contact them. I spoke with them after seeing the great performance from the display plane. They said if enough interest is out there they will kit this plane in the ARF form. So drop them a line or give them a call if you are interested in it.
It is huge and looks like it flies great (WS 104", Wing area 1692 sq in)

I just returned from the Superman. I’ve been real busy, so I was unable to post the last couple days of pictures. Here are some of the pictures I took the last 2 days. It was a really good event and the Skymaster gang and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for all of your help. We had a very good time there.

It was a pleasure meeting so many friends and being able to create new relationships with new friends. I was very surprised so many people were interested in our new planes (BAe Hawk, F-5, and F-18E). It gave a chance for everyone to see how well our planes fly. Unfortunately, due to electronic failure we did lose our BAe Hawk. We’re not sure if the battery or the voltage regulator caused it. The plane lost control then the engine shut down and sadly crashed. However, most people did get to see how well the Hawk flew and we were just glad we had a chance to show everyone. We will be building another one immediately so we can continue to fly this plane. I’m back in the office and I have stacks paperwork on my desk a mile high, so I’ll need some time to get everything together. I will try to get back to you guys as soon as I get settled.
