ORIGINAL: H.Dale Flight Report Wren MW44: I flew mine with the MW44 yesterday. The performance was very similar to the one I saw with an OS 61 on it. On the first flight it was nose heavy and I did not have enough up in the elevator but we got it up and down okay. The second flight was perfect except for a flame out on the turbine. It dropped in from about 15-20 feet but only bent the landing gear. This is a pretty strong little bird. Two suggestions, turn the wheels outward on the main gear. It needs a wider stance. It was very unstable on takeoff. Second, make sure you have plenty of elevator. Otherwise it is going to be a fun airplane to fly. I think it will be even better with a MW54 or P60 and retracts. ORIGINAL: malibuplt We have a 40 x 600ft paved runway, but I am still concerned. It would stink to put one together and not be able to fly it. I would put at least a .61 in it. Maybe a turbine on down the road. |

The motor has 633kv and using about 45a full throttle. The ESC is E-Max 60A and the battery is of no name barnd that I got from the factory in China 5s 1p 4000 mah rated at 20-30C. The motor is actually best with an APC 13 X 6 prop, but it looks cooler with the 3 blader. I would like to try 12 X 7 or even 12 X 8 but the shops don't carry any of these sizes. One modification I forgot to mention, I rebuilt the horizontal tailplane as a flat plate instead of using the one in the kit. I feel that the flat bottom section will lift the tail too much while flying and will always cause a nose down tendency. The turbine bobcat has a large upthrust ( the exhaust points down ) but this kit has almost a zero thrustline. Just my 2 cents !! |

Bobcat/ Jet Joe JJ1400
Flew the Bobcat the second time with all problems resolved and what a dream plane for the price. It is a rocket and that is not at full throttle. The performance with the JJ1400 is better than that of a Yellow Stingray with my Ram 500. In fact, I compared the Stingray wing to the wing of the Bobcat and they were almost identical(outer part). The Bobcat is a Stingray with booms and elevator. This is the cheapest turbine/plane you can buy. I have a video, but it is super 8MM and not digital. Johnny |

I believe that they are the older 300 series. They have been collecting dust in the shop for a long time (at least 7 years). I looked up retracts.com and unable to find exact match. Dave |

those retracts look like my 605 spring air's that i have in my bobcat, page 4 post #90, not to get off the subject but dose any one have any personal exp with the Mark 61 dbb ringed motor, i'd like to replace my ys-45 with a little more p&v with out paying the high dollar for the dubb-jet motor

The retract is approximately 1" tall, with hole for 3/16" wire. I wanted a softer gear and went with 5/16" wire. The brass tube used to shim the wire can be seen in the picture. Dave |

hay jephry if you are in SINGAPORE, then you are pretty close to sea level and i would say the 50fx will be plenty of motor for the bobcat,
if you are gonna use the 91fx i would not use smaller then a 11+ prop, in fear of over tacking the motor with a 10x8 (just my 2cents) im using a ys-45 at about 4,500 feet and im getting 80-90+mph. |

Note this plane was designed for a .45-.50 2-stroke. Mine flys very well with a Dub Jett .50 |

OK I'll throw in my 2 cents. I flew mine last weekend with an O.S.46 and a 10x8 prop tach was reading 11600 rpm. I used a 2400 mah battery pack in the nose. The CG came out around 9" from the leading edge at the root and it was a little nose heavy. The takeoff from grass was about 150' The control throws were as specified in the manual high rate is a little too much on aileron 80% DR seemed more comfortable. The weight is just under 7.5lbs Speed was 70-80 mph no speedster but very comfortable. Landing was as simple as setting up with the runway and holding some up elevator at low throttle and gliding in.
I believe a larger motor could be used without much effort, the only problem is ground clearance for the prop. Perhaps a .61 turning the same 10x8 at higher rpm would work out nicely. Or a dubbjet 40-50 and tuned pipe Oh Yeah! Gary |

Got the first flights in on mine today. About all I can say is that it flies. I got two flights in before the nose wheel turned on landing and one of the main wheel blocks popped loose when the plane skidded sideways. Not big deal but a pain to have to fix a plane after two flights. (did I mention I hate nose wheels) I am disappointed with the Saito 72, 11-7 prop combination (I know you told me so). It flew it but it didn't fly it if you know what I mean. Well seeings I have to get into the wing to reattach the landing gear block I am going with my first incliation and putting the 75 two stroke on it. Should be an improvment. For reference my CG is a 10" from the wing at the fuse and it seemed perfect.
