Question

How does the JC Rabbit compare to the Jetcat P100? This Gen2 version is supposed to be a couple pounds lighter.

Thx

Ron,
Actaully the JC rabbit is too mch at 20#. I only used full throttle for take off, then I leave the throttle at 5/8. You can do what every you want at 5/8 throttle. BTW if you go this route (20lbers+) you need to redo the thrust line or you will have trouble. I have a post here showing what I did to change it (post #139)

RE: BD-5J Project

Hello Ron:

Our Jet Central Rabbit 100 develops 22.5 lb thrust at 6000 feet. This is real thrust. The turbine weighs 2lb 3 oz. all up and averages 7 oz per minute. It is full auto kero start. The start takes about 40 seconds on the average.

This Rabbit 100 is delivered in ks start mode however, gas start is also programmed in the FADEC. Simple change over for those who wish to use gas as their choice for starting.

Side by side, the Rabbit is smaller than its competitors, generates more "real thrust" and is as user friendly as one could want. Reducing thrust takes less than a minute. A thrust / RPM chart is included in every manual. A thrust reduction to a suitable wide open throttle thrust for the BD-5 does not in any way affect any other operational parameter.

We will be offering a Show Special at Jets over Kentucky. . .you may purchase even if not in attendance.

Thanks for the question. . .

Thanks for that info, I read your mod post very carefully and I intend to follow it by the letter. This Gen 2 BD is supposed to be a couple pounds lighter, I had already went with the Jetcat P100. Already looking down the road to another jet, so I will definitely be looking at the Jet Cental turbines.

I'll keep you guys posted with build pics and detailed data when the build begins.

Eric

I really appreciate your response and all the info. It really speaks well of a product when potential customers can get a response from a manufacturer like the one you provided. While I missed you on this purchase, you probably just sold another engine down the road on one of my future projects.

Thank you sir

Ron

Great looking BD rick, do you own the molds to that? If so, would you be interested in providing a short kit? I love BD's and yours looks to have the most accurate outline.

Thanks,
Thomas

I was planning to-but my plate is so full right now I could screem trying to get the batwing ready for Toledo this yeareventually I'll be laying them up-the unit you see is all composite Nomex construction (same as dragon) I'm currently switching out the robart struts for trailing link

You know as far as scale goes I stuck with Byrons shape-the exhaust in true scale would be smaller but then it would be too small for the 400 AMT I installed in mine. Besides I really like the look of the larger exhaust tube over scalemy 2 cents

Rick,
Sounds good. When you get around to doing some short/full kits count me in on one. Matter of fact, if your interested, i could work on doing some scale main/nose gear cad drawings. Ive got a good bit of full-scale Bd5 experience (i have built 4), so it would be pretty simple to do the cad work.

Here are some pix of the original foam plug of the 55% sacrificed a byron bd (got the molds so I didn't care) to generate the sections for scalingalso the finished model other than paint

Rick,
Send me a pm with what kind of gear design you want for the beast and i will see if i can work something out :). I can do the cad design, but the actual machining i dont have the abilities for currently.

I was just kidding -the dragon uses carbon/Kevlar flex plates

How much weight did you guys flying the Skymaster version have to add in the nose?
Thanks

I had a A123 pack, the duralite pump 4300mah pack, and a nicad 5 cell (3000mah, C cell size), plus 1-2lbs of lead in the nose.

The astute viewers on here will be able to notice no provision for a rudder servo. One of a few things that can be improved on future versions.
