I like it !!!!!

Going a little old school, here is look at my first turbine, a Reaction built from a BTE kit which I since sold a few years later. To this date, it has to be the best quality and designed kit I have ever built. Hats off to Bruce. The wings are fully sheeted and the whole plane is glassed in .75 cloth. The paint is base / clear and all the graphics are paint. Not a single decal, vinyl or rub on.

Here is my new Reaction that I've been working on and off over the past year. I have to admit I was inspired by another modeler's Reaction 54 earlier in this thread. I also found a full scale series of photos of the unusual Hawker SeaHawk that provided a clearer goal for me. I ordered my Reaction in all white and took a Scotch Brite pad to the finish prior to paint. Sea grey paint is PPG Omni auto finish. Red paint is from a rattle can. Vinyl decals from Callie Graphics and details from Pro Mark Graphics. Turbine is Jet Cat P-90RXi, a great power match!

WOW!! Looks awesome! But I'm biased. You really did capture the Hawker Sea Hawk look, much better than I did, too. Well done indeed :)

Thanks, Eddie!

Bryan your inflight shot is an incredible capture of the work you did. My favorite. I also wanted to say that the other R54's are really fantastic works of art too. The F-4 renditions are awesome - RCJets 63, really awesome work man, over the top! All the other ones too. I miss my R54, I used to buddy box guys at my club to let them get some stick time (trying to infect the local population with Jet-Itis). My R54 still lives 2 hours away, I get occasional reports from guys every once in a while that they saw the "Seahawk R54" flying.

Every time I read this thread I get more excited about completing and flying my Reaction. It's really good to see so many different Reactions. It confirms the jet is a solid trainer and all around flyer.

Now my question, is Crow recommended or needed on this jet?

thanks,

2FAS

Mine lands very slowly using about 80 degrees or so of flap, so much so that it receives many comments from the peanut gallery on just how slowly it lands, it has always maintained full control authority also.

Guys, does any body has a wing for the PST Reaction that would like to sell?
Any color since it is going to be repainted. Mine broke at the gear areas and
is very difficult to repair.
You can contact me at : [email protected]

Hello Hector - this is Tor from Norway, I hope you are well and still flying jets! We have never forgotten the great time we spent with you,in Puerto Rico! Now a very good friend of mine is taking his wife to Puerto Rico in February/March 2015, and is wondering where to stay as they do not like big hotels and crowded beaches. They are looking for a house to rent on a beach on the North-Western side of the island, do you have any good tips for them? They are nice, cool people and are looking for a laid-back, nice place to relax for a few weeks. Any input would be appreciated!
We have a condo in Cape Coral in Florida now, so when we start staying there more we would love to come over to San Juan again!
Best regards, Tor

I've been busy with my Gripen but found a bit of time (while Hysol was drying) to spend a bit of time on the RePhantom. The stab is painted in an F-4'ish way and weathered and I added a droppable centerline tank.

Jim

What happened to the anhedral stab you were working on.

joeflyer 11-17-2014 05:20 PM

Looking good, Jim! I just received my Reaction 54 kit last week from Bruce, so that's going to be my winter project. Keep the pictures coming both for this and the Gripen. I need the inspiration.

Joe

rcjets_63 11-17-2014 10:23 PM

Joe, thanks. Occasionally I need inspiration for that Gripen. Lots if re-engineering to do there.

Dave, the anhedral stab is in progress. I've started to mold one from scratch because I'm really not convinced that the one I made by mitering a stock stab was strong enough and I'm not prepared to find out by the stab breaking off and the plane thundering in. In the mean time, I had/have a couple of events to attend so I painted a stock stab to match the Sundowners scheme.

Regards,

Jim

Great to hear you are coming to PHX, Ron. Yep, it'll be there Fri-Sun.

Some pics of the Re-Phantom taken at the Arizona Jet Rally. Next mods will be adding a dual nose wheel (great idea Tim Redelman), IR seeker blister under nose (to house the MSpeed pitot tube), missiles, 1/2 exhaust cones on each side of the engine, and a few more touch ups on the finish/markings. The anhedral stab gets molded this winter.

Regards,

Jim

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2108638It took me two years but I finally finished my Reaction X. Can anyone confirm if they also needed to add weight to the nose even on the long nose Reaction. I have a Kingtech K100, my batteries are in the nose, header tank is full, gear is down for CG check.

Thanks,

2FAS

BruceTharpe 07-07-2015 07:29 PM

Yeah, I assembled one a few years ago for a customer with P120. Lots of batteries in the nose, still took over a pound of nose weight to balance, which surprised me. One of the reasons that PST lengthened the nose was to help with balance. But I think it's still pretty common to need nose weight, even with the longer nose.

2FAS 07-07-2015 07:49 PM

Bruce thank you for the quick reply. I feel better knowing its still common to need the nose weight. Also I really Appreciate the control horns you mailed me when I started my build and discovered I was missing mine.

Thanks

ROTOMATT 07-13-2015 05:22 PM

You will need the Weight I have an X nose as well, P90rxi with x2 rx batteries & 1 ecu battery & x2 small air tanks (all in the nose ) and I still needed to add weight for correct CG. Great paint work

Roto, I added a pound in the nose. My total weight with header tank full is 31 lbs. The paint job was a lot of work I will not take on again. How much flap are you using? 60 degrees as the manual states? Thanks
