Have a look at post 2112 you would not think it was anything except purpose made for the Sprint IMO it looks better.

Hi Mike,
Yes I had seen that in looking through this thread, have you covered the model or is it paint? The reason why I ask is that the Baby Boomerang that I have just got off a mate that has had it at home in his garage for the last 5 years or so & had taken all the covering off it. Thats is as far as he got with it, so I have it now so what I did is sanded all down to a smooth finish, I have glassed it & painted the whole model Yellow & Red I will post a picture on the thread later on this week, cause I dont know how to down load the pic from my cell ph to my computer thank god my daughter does L0L? but she wont be over until Friday . Have you had a Baby Boomerang if so how do you rate the jet to the new Sprint Jet?? Thanks Dave. |
Ever you tried 2 litre clear or coloured pop bottles, cut down ? Have heard they solve a lot of " no longer available " canopy issues .

Xairflyer thats interesting to know, I have a King Tech 100 auto start to put into my Baby Boomerang should be here this week so hopefully I can mount it. I was just going to mount it into the jet first then run it up a couple of times prior to me flying the jet. Is this a good idea you reckon.

Yes do no harm take booms off for first runs then you wont be worried about a hot start, I have a K80 in mine now as I put the P60 in the Navycat, Boomerang is a great test bed for a new turbine before putting it into something else !

My Sprint is covered, not glassed, I like to keep things as light as possible, no extra's that are just ballast in the end.

Yep I was thinking about taking off the booms prior to starting the new Turbine up, I have seen a couple of fire on jets out at the field. 0ne of the guys tail plane was completely burnt off he had to make a new complete stalizlier. The other one had lost the tail plane & parts of either side of the booms real mess.0ne thing about covering a plane is that it is lighter & probably alot easyier to fix up any hanger rash. But the covering does come lose after awhile & looks tacky with glass & paint does make it a little bit strucklly stronger so its not going to stress to much in the air also paint does look alot nicer but is harder to touch up. I used the finest glass cloth I could fine I think it was 56oz could of used the old method of tissue & dope but thats bloody messey & stinks the whole house out but its a good smell I reckon. I used Base coat Clear Coat on the Baby Boomerang probably used about 250 mls of paint / clear all together. I will weigh it up & post some pics on this forum propbably on Friday as this is when my Daughter comes over for evening meal she can down load from my cell ph & then into the computer I dont know how to do this L0L. the flaming is usually due to fuel in the turbine from last shutdown. Maybe due not having fuel shutoff before refueling.....always a reason that should be preventable.

What is the maximum throw on the Sprint you can expect from the flap.

You can go to full down flaps.... Best are three settings; a takeoff, then a landing flaps ,k and full down as a speed brake when on the ground. Settings are a personal choice . Not sure if any suggestions in the manual. Actually I don't use any flap for takeoff as she flies just fine with up flap.

Full flap is near 90 degs works exceptionally well with crow in the final stages of the approuch, slows the whole thing down to a crawl, just use the throttle to keep the thing flying, it will deasend quite steeply, but with plenty of control to flair prior to touch down.
I fly from a very small site, just a mown patch in the middle of a sheep field, so dead on landings needed, no flying it past yourself and landing at the far end of a long runway. Mike |

The Travel project.
I wanted to see how small the Sprint could broken down into its many parts for transportation. Well I was amazed it use about 1/2 the space in my Toyota Matrix with the back seats down. I came up with a prototype Sprint fuse body tray using 11/16" dense foam/rubber made from interlocking gym mats - The tray uses 8 parts and is very sturdy when epoxied together with 5min glue. With the weight of the fuse its not going anywhere it won't slide about as the mat really grabs well. The rest of the model: Wings, H-Stab and the two booms slide into 2 foam plates add the f-glass wing tube and you got a handle to carry it about easily. |

Gee you could almost put your booms onto to the wing parts of the fuse & just make up a short spar just to keep them together, should fit in that station wagon you got there. Once you get to your field lift it out in one peice, pull the forse spar out put in your carbon spar conect up your wings & go fly less work to do once you get to the field.

Yes I can fit the Sprint in with the booms on - But the idea was to see how much room I could have - When I go to Jet Rally's every inch counts with fuel/F-extinguisher, luggage, sun-tent, and don't forget the better half. Always ensure the better half is the top of your list

Just got back home from having a three day Jet / Scale event it was awesome ecept the fist day iit rained / rained so most of us just sat around in the huge Maque We just sat round talked & ate / drunk cups of tea & coffee. Next day weather was beauitful had about 30 registered flyers last day was a wee bit windy fly able but not nice trying to land a few mishaps but not to bad. Cant wait to have the next one weather patterns here in New Zealand are all over the place one day hot next day pissing down with rain another day to windy to fly, just cant seem to get this weather pattern even but from what I see on TV its all over the world. any way happy flying Dave from New Zealand. |

I looked at what I hade and decided for storage I could stack the wings etc ontop of the fuse
by adding 2 more parts I got this setup for storage |

Changed the elevator servo to exit through the top side and added some Alum tape to help with heat |

what turbine are you using ?. I have the JM VT80 and mine barely gets warm even though I totally covered the lower part of the H stab Have contemplated making up ply covers at one time and would do so if replacements required. |

Hi I got my Sprint 2nd hand late this past summer and found the plastic had been melted by previous owner - likely due to hot start
so Alum tape added as safety item - seen a lot of people doing it on here - So not from the fact it gets warm - I also got the same motor with 4 hours on it - Flew it 3 times in Chatham in Sept and motor was just right for this model ran great. |

Got tired of looking at the 60's style paint scheme on the sprint. I went with a Kenny Roberts 78 world championship paint scheme.
