Hopefully the others building this will chip in, but the bench is clear and it's time to start...

Unusually for a Graupner kit the manual is ready, multi language and colour pixs!
Servo choice seems to be full size on everything except elevators (3301/3328) I will probably go JR3401 and make side mounts.
8231/8411 on everything except nose steering where I'll use my usual JR 579. Nose steering servo is inverted to allow Y lead.
Bye Pass ducting is limiting turbine dia to less than 100mm turbines. I'm going P70 if the ducting allows the length. Tail pipe will suit any P60-70, G80/90 and Super Sport, Merlin 90 etc.
Tanks look small, but I filled one with water in the office and they are over 1 ltr each.

Looking at wing last week, the wheels need off-set to miss wing sculpting to clear turbine-will know more when I start that bit! The kit is designed around Harpoon trailing link legs. AT, Behotec or Eurokit retracts should fit.

Nose removes with two screws only.

Thats it till I get the kit home tomorrow.

Dave et all

I think a build thread is so much easier to read if comments can be kept to a minimum so that the thread contains only relevant build information.

Trying to be helpful.

I fear for your wish...;)

I have the tailplane infront of me, looks like the JR3401 will fit with Graupner 3893.20 side mounts

It is my intention to show I (again) can build a jet in less than a week. Trevor picked up his kit today, we looked at it a bit more and noticed several details missed on my initial look.
Rudder servo slot started in fin...nice
All servo mounting holes drilled...nice
Aileron servo mount fixed in wing, wood parts only need finishing to install servos...nice
Fuel tank mount fixing pre installed...nice
Just coating wood in epoxy now...then it begins, after fencing!

If only we could get the canopy glass installed it would be brilliant!!

I think it's possible even for two duffers to get it done...maybe for Sunday

D

PS Luke is collecting his too!

OK

Elevator servos in.
The mounts are Hysol glued to the top skin as the foot print is reasonable. Would have liked a ply spreader but tail is too thin for this.
Keep the servo towards the back of the opening as full down takes the arm well forward.

Not much achieved tonight, most of my family are pretending to be ill so I have to nurse them!
Canopy glass fits well, aileron servo mounts assembled, ready to screw into factory mounts
Tank bungs started, I've added Dubro barbs for a good seal.

Dave,

Looks like yours is coming along nicely. I have made some progress and will post up a few pics later but it always seems difficult to take pics during a speed build:). Once you start building this airframe it is clear the extra money for this kit is in the detail like the clever use of rectangular slots to mount the extension leads for the tailplane servos and all the servo mounting plates are pre-drilled. Canopy base is completely pre-fitted which for me saves a huge amount of time and that's important for. Unfortunately I am busy for most of the day so doubt I will get much done however can see that without distractions this kit is an easy week to complete and the most pre-fab model I have done yet.

Looks like Dave is doing ok with his so you'll have to come to the patch and fly his one at the weekend ;)

Dave - Would be interesting to know if the Inspiration would suit EDF conversion. Would 120mm fans or the new larger DS94HST (135mm OD) fit?

Dave Wilshere 11-04-2009 12:34 PM

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown

Not with the inlet tracks supplied. I think the inlet size is OK, but the sleeves reduce for the turbine tank system, the tail outlet could be 100mm (4") so plenty of scope. It is light the wing from the box is 1227gram (about 43 oz)
If you could mould foam inlets then yes.

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown

Thanks Dave. Having to bespoke intakes is a given with most turbine airframes it seems. I saw from your earlier post that the fuel tanks were already installed but I presume they would come out easy enough. Unfortunatley, the DS94HST needs 11cm diameter at the end of the thrust tube. Thanks again. Look forward to seeing yours fly on video.

RE: Graupner Inspiration build thread-Flown

Not installed, just installation points installed!

You could shortern the tail cone and gain dia.

IF? Thats not the sort of attitude that wins prizeshttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../msn/72_72.gif

Put me down on the list for a flight on Saturday then - Iwill bring my own fuel ! and latte fuel as well as you will obviously be staying up all night Friday to finish.

and Trevor make sure you don't let the side down - don't let Dave kid you that he's not progressing - its all smokescreen !
