RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hello Peter,
Are you covering the plane with aluminium tape or litho aluminum? If a tape is being used what thickness is it? Outstanding work indeed! Reuben |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hi Reuben,
Thanx, Only a few panels on the dragshute housing and the front of the dorsal vin are tape with 0.1 mm thickness and the rest is all litho aluminnium 0.25mm. Greets, Peter |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Excellent work Peter, I always admire guy's that can do this type of work

RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Thanx Dave :D.

RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Looking really good Peter. However, it will be very difficult and time consuming to mould the thin static dispensers. If you want to be able to unmould them at release during the production process, you'll need to make them out of a thin carbon row and then embed them across the moulding plan without air bubbles. Possible but very time consuming and as you want to work fast during the moulding process...
I'd recommend you to mould these thin additional details separately and add them at a later stage. |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hi Oli, thanks for the complement.
About the tiny parts, I had already in mind to mold them separately because as you say it takes to much time and it is difficult. Thanks anyway for the advice. I will make forms in silicone rubber of all the tiny parts. Greets, Peter |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
This time no pictures of alu panels but I had to do some little thing on the cockpit.
The gap between cp and fuselage. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...9295-q-004.jpg Here it is filled out with epoxy filler. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e59297-002.jpg Also removed the after section of the cp to get less obsticals in the mold. For later it is also possible to create a F16 A version. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e59298-001.jpg Filled the hole with epoxy filler but needs a few times extra filling to get the right shape. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e59299-003.jpg Next step is to visit the big brother for info about the hinge point of the canopy. |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Made some bulkheads for the A version F16. This canopy will become a extra mold.
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e59469-002.jpg http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e59471-004.jpg Would be a nice picture having both versions on the strip. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...010-174124.jpg Grts |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Man.. love the panel work.. She's gonna be a masterpiece.

:DThanx
Greetings, Peter |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Holy mackerel! That is OUTSTANDING! More pics of the progress please and lets know if you have any plans of producing to sell.

RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Started with placing all the importand panellines with a cross-laser on the underside of the plug. Every detail is checked on the big one and will be placed on the model.

RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Peter,
I'm also building a 1/5th scale model of an SU-34. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10367121/tm.htm Your model is looking great. Is about time a B/D model is being built. Would love to stay in touch and get some advice from you. heres my personal email: [email protected] Cheers, Joe |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hi Joe, superr project you are building, very big. Too big for me:D.
Started with panelling the fuselage on the top. This is also to keep the spirit because it is a lot of work :D. First started with the sharp edges to create a starting point for the rest of the panels. It took me a copple of hours to make one side. And this is the result. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61122-003.jpg http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61121-002.jpg Adjusting one big piece of plating. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61123-005.jpg After some more hours....... http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61126-010.jpg After sanding with 1500 grid http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61124-008.jpg Greets |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
amazing work
|
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Peter,
This is looking awesome. What is the thickness of the aluminum sheeting you are using. Does it have one side with glue or do you apply the glue first then attach the alum sheets? I have a request, can you make a short video of the steps you use for the sheeting. This is exactly the type of detail I want on the SU. Great job. Cheers, Joe |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hi Joe,
The thickness af the (litho) aluminium is 0.25 mm and I attach it with Bison-Tix. You have to apply glue on both sides and wait for 10 minutes. Have made some pictures for you. My tools, thickness depending on the rivets. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61144-005.jpg Pressing the awl in the alu, if this has been heated it gets soft and then you must not press too hard. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61142-003.jpg When you are finished turn over the alu and take a piece of alu tube (wich is clean) roll over the alu pressing the dots back. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61143-004.jpg The dents will be smaler and more scale like. If you don't press them back the dents are too deep in my opinion. Just try it to get the feel of it. Greets, Peter |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Forgot to tell that I am also using a thick glass plate as under layer, also important.
Grz. |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Hi Peter
I am scratch building a 1/6th F-16 and want to put some good panel detail on it. Not as amazing as yours but good enough to raise some eybrows. Do you have some drawings available or could you point me in the right direction to get some. I cant seem to find enough on the web! Thanks and awsome project Cheers Julian www.liquidwings.co.uk |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
Peter,
Thanks again for the detail description:D. I will be trying it shortly. Cheers, Joe |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
A few days work later...
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61269-001.jpg This one was a difficult one cause of the small lines in it. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61521-002.jpg And on its place. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61519-003.jpg A view along the aluminium, not bad. http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...e61520-001.jpg |
RE: My scale 1/5 F-16 B
4 Panels more and ................ to go:D
