Default Costs of running nitro?

I run electrics right now but I'm interested in Nitro. I've heard alot of people say that running nitro is expensive. Can someone tell me where those hidden costs lie? How much does it actually cost to run a nitro MT?

25-40 bucks a gallon on average, which can last2 days or a month, even longer. Depends on how much you like to run.
About 4-7 bucks a piece for glow plugs, you'll need oneafter enginebreak-in, if you don't get it tuned right, you'll need more lol.
Most nitro trucks need some kind of upgrades in the radio system, usually just a 5 cell battery pack, which can wait, but aa batteriesget expensivetoo.

Nitro is very fun! If you do your research and have patience it won't get too expensive. You have to read the instructions though!
It really boils down to this: Do you like to tinker with stuff? Or do you like to drive?

And every couple of years you need to replace the piston and sleeve for like $50. Usually every 8 - 14 gallons depending on how you run it (overheating, winter break in : /, etc.)

For an MT, buy a Dynamite Big Red 28, an OS #8 and #10 glow plug, then just go find out.. Not that expensive. Break it in right and be nice to it and you should get a solid eight gallons minimum out of it.. Maybe more, maybe less.. All depends on how you take care of it..

For me, if a Big Red for ex costs $130 or so and lasts 5-6 gallons with good power and easy tuning, it's earned its keep... I don't get to run as often as I would like to, plus I have four RC's..(with 7-8 engines to switch around..) So with one engine it might take me two years to get to eight gallons... By which time there's some other engine or deal going that I just have to have.... I think I'm more addicted to engines than to the RC's....

Because of the frequency I run my RC's I got out of Nitro, no way i'm shelling out 30-45 bucks a gallon every week. The cost got high with fuel, unless you don;t run it much then it's not a big deal. IT just became a pain in the butt to drop the cash and go pick it up at a hobby shop. Thats why I run electric or Gas only now.

MY running costs:

1 gallon of fuel per six to nine months
1 glow plug every two or three years
boatloads of alkalines since I can't be bothered to get a hump pack and charger for the reciever.

So no, they're not expensive to run.

all depends, i run rechargeables in the RX and am easy on fuel

learning how to tune helps with economy and life, and using a motor that is enough but not over kill helps too.

i go through 1-2 gallons a year.

I burn about 6-8 gallons a year through 4 nitro trucks. That's with me working48-60 hours every week fromapril tojune, and 69-81from july to december. The rest of the timeI work40 hours but it's freezing outside. I don't run nitro in the cold.A quart is usually about 6-7 tanks.
