I wouldn't think twice about the Losi either. About the only thing an aftershock needs out of the box to run nice is a Losi HT Pipe. The stock Aftershock pipes really really suck.

The spin starter is the way to go. I have a spare one I dont need I'd sell for $20. They're kinda bulky, but IMO they work far better than a pullstart.

The losi will be a lot stronger and better built than a t-maxx or e-maxx. Personally, I like pullstarts fine. Dont think id pay the extra $50 for a spin start, however they do work well.

My father in law just got an LST, which is just like an aftershock with some better features. It is a real nice truck. He also has a newer E-Maxx too, and you can tell the build quality of the Losi is better.

In a nutshell Losi overbuilds their MT's. If you compared a losi side-by-side to a traxxas, you'll easily see why they're better. The chassis is more rigid and strong, The transmission is very simple and efficient, the 2-speed setup doesnt require a lot of effort to adjust, they're wider and longer - more stable, Easy to tune and reliable big block engines.. The list goes on..

If you go through the process of shimming the diffs and clutch, you will have a drivetrain that will last almost forever. This isnt needed to just go play, but is a good idea to do.
