I too have been told by the old LHS to go 4 stroke ! [X(]... and I did some digging and decided the 4 stroke thing is really cool, ..and performace is great(low end is awesome, high speed just there with the right gears and clutch) ....and I wish I had the money to do it ! I just went for the 2-stroke thrash and trash option...cheap($120-40USD) engines and have fun(less screwing around....while remaining thrifty!!!!! [:'(] )

..I`m sure if I drove a FS40 conversion I`d want one !.... somthing bad

I think new-era models make a FS40 T-Max conversion kit.... but it is just basically a .21 conversion(with the .40 fs).....

If your going to do it I think your going to need serious driveline work, probaly a Pirate tranny(buggy Style)..... The engine its self is only half the picture, there`s the gearing/low RPM issue too, but of course "money" would solve all these Problems[:-]

SuperchargeRR ! [X(][X(] Yeah lets do it.... or maybe a turbo would be even better !

Anyone know of a small R/C turbo for four strokers ???

Why do you think a turbo would be better than a supercharger (belt driven or gear driven)? Do you think you would have to cool the air for a turbocharger to function properly?

Nows your talkin!!

I think a supercharger will be WAAAY better.

You dont have to worry about the turbo going into surge mode when your damn engine revs up to 15k rpm and drops to 1000! lol

HAHA.. the thought occured to me just now.. install a wastegate
WEEEEEEEEEEE...PSSSST!

I'll buy a supercharger only after I see some dyno tests though. Until then.. Theres no replacement for displacement!!

By the way. 4vs 2 stroke isnt a fair comparison. 2 strokers will revv up n down like theres no tomorrow and make a 4-stroke feel like a sumo wrestler in a skating rink. (ice cracks...)

4 strokers have immense torque but you'll top out quick.
But.. 4 strokers have a much more uniform power curve, and a dual 4 stroker with a 2 speed will be just awesome!!! But this would have to be a 1/8 scale if not bigger!

everyone who wants to do a 4s converison gets scared away looking at numbers(ie Horsepower) which isnt very fair. Horse power is matematical, and the only reason that a 4 stroke has lower horsepower is that the rpms are lower. It has more torque by design and is capable of doing more work(moving a truck). 4 strokes are ideal for trucks where weight doesnt matter much and torque is needed, Although .21 2 strokes have more than enough torque for an 8lb truck anyway. But if you go heaveier like all aluminum you may need it.

Turbo`s are where its at !... it is true that a supercharger would be easier to set-up, but Turbo`s have come a long way in recent years(in full scale cars)... you get to use wasted energy(exhaust gas pressure) and with the lastest ceramic bb turbo`s there is no lag. And yeah the waste gate and blow-off system pssssst ! [:@][:@]
Plus with Turbo`s there is really no need to modify the stock cam...maybe drop a little compression.

And YES I totally agree there is no reason to be scared off by the specs... 4 strokes are the way of the future and in the MX arena they are getting very close to the whip and RPM of 2-strokes !.... I wanna see a radial 5 valve twin cam head setup [X(][8D] for the R/C 4-stroker..... its quiet disapointing to me to see push-rods actually !

o theres still plenty of lag. The lag comes from when the extra exhaust drag outweighs the power it makes, not from rolling resistance or anyhting. Otherwise they are great for racing because of the high power/weight ratio they have. A supercharger makes max power at idle through highest rpm, but it doesnt make as much ad a turbo at high rpms. neither would be worth the money/weight/complexity, it would only be for bragging purposes.

o btw i know an outlaw kart racer that gets over 65hp from an originally 205 cc, flat head, briggs engine(bored of course) ive never heard of a 2 stroke with that kind of power/cc...

From what I know, nodal, YES they do last longer.

They run at much lower RPMS, and hence face a lot less friction compared to their 2 stroke counterparts.

And your absolutely right about the HP ratings.

HP is Torque applied over time. Diesel engines have lowe(er) horsepower than their gasoline counterparts. But if they lack power, why do virtually all trucks and ALL 7 liter + engines use them? (HFO, Type 1, 2 same thing..)

ON THE OTHER HAND, we have to take into consideration, the fact that Nitromethane, gas and diesel are VERY DIFFERENT when it comes to volatility.
A Diesel redlines at 2500 RPM (not a typo) because the expansion rate is quite low, while nitro can explode faster than sound can travel! (I'm making this up but it may be true!).

For comparison, Your Onroad touring car's engine is reciprocating about 500 times PER SECOND at top speed! Can your say.. NUTS!

But with a 4 stroker, you wont go more than 12k I guess. so you can make do with less nitro (maybe none) and still get GREAT power!

Hmm... What about a methanol/ether combo?

My diesel powered road car (Ford Galaxy) has a 1.9Litre turbo engine that produces 130Bhp and redlines at 5500 rpm, I could fit a chip that will increase it to 165bhp.
So diesels are are lot better now than they were a few years ago and are getting better all the time. They also use a lot less fuel than gasoline engines because they are more efficient in the burning of the fuel in the combustion chamber.

Kuma,

Are you using the stock clutch with the new era adapter? What's your setup!?

Formula-1 4 strokes turn over 28k rpms now. They make 1500+ hp from a 1.8L v12. SO yes 4 cycles can do anything a 2 stroke can. The only reason i see using a 2 stroke is weight and cost savings. They do make more power/weight, but not more power/cc
