Hey petrolpixie. I'm looking for info on converting to 4-stroke also. I'm wanting to put a big 4-stroke on my old Kyosho Vanning. People are converting but there's not much info on it yet. Here is a pick of a T-Maxx with a OS Max .40fs 4-stroke.

Here is a link with a little info:

I know New Era sells 4 stroke conversion kits and parts. Looks like its for an OS engine in their examples.[8D][link=http://www.neweramodels.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?session_id=tixfujjagdrxocwrtxjvurembuqyqr xg&part_id=135]NE 4 Stroke Conv.[/link]

OS made to Engines for Truck conversions, a .26 and a .40 both discontinued I think

The biggest draw back is heat, the 4-stroke have no cooling fins to speak of. They are basicly Airplane motors with stiffer valve spring and the Carb moved to acomidate the pull start mech. So in order to disperse the heat most guys had to install an onboard fan to move air over the engine. this adds to the overall weight of the truck

The second concern is speed, a average .21 turns around 35,000 RPMs where as the OS .40 maxes out at around 18,000 before it starts floating valves, So in order to get any decent speed you really have to modify the gearing.

I love 4-strokes in my airplanes but I don't think it's practical for a truck, I've thought about trying it myself,,, maybe someday

ok well here is what i found out about 4 strokes after a trip to my lhs today.
os engines still make the 26 and 40 sized motors and they are a special make for cars (they will rev to 22k)
the .40 sized motor is too expensive ($450 aud, price for a picco 26 here)
unless the .40 makes power like the picco does (which i seriously doubt) the motor can stay at the hobby shop lol
can anyone give me any insite on to what the 40 will be like compared to the picco? (when all the gearing is correct for the 4 stroke too)
once again thanks for any help that you can give me, adrian

you can find the .40s on ebay in the $200 range every once in a while

Go to osengines.com to find the horse power ratings, they say 0.9 bhp @ 17,500 rpm
With the right clutch bell/Spur gear you would get decent speed
