Default Cen MT2 only one gear ?? Help

I recently recived a MT2 as a gift, It was brand new in the box, but as I open it and take a closer look, the gear looks like its a one speed rather than a 2 speed, I saw the picture on Cenracing site detailing the gear section, where it has 2 red gear, I only have one big plastic gear, and where it has one blue and a black gear, I only have one shinny metal gear, what is the problem with my truck ? I am very worried that this is a problem as this was a gift bought from the US and I live in Canada, and I don't have the recipt, what can I do to solve this ? am I stuck with this faulty truck ?
any MT2 owners have any ideas ?? sorry i don't have a picture for my truck but this is what it suppose look like

You should call Cen and talk to them. If you want to, ask to talk to Sean and tell him that Dan H. from RCU told you to talk to him. He is a great guy and has taken care of me quite a few times.

Also, make sure there is a drive shaft going to the front of the truck. It sounds like you may have gotten an ST2 in the wrong box.

well thats the weird part, there is a drive shaft, going to the front, but it has only one gear. I thought all MT2 are 2 speeds ? maybe its an old MT ? maybe its an ATX with bigger tires (Is ATX 2 speed ?) besides that everything else looks likes its a MT2. I really hope Cen will send me the parts.

If I stay with one speed, what is the advantages and disadvantages ?

thanks

All MT2s are two speed, as are most of the 4 wheel drive Cen vehicles. The big disadvantage of the single speed is speed, you will not hit the 45 MPH mark. Everything I can see on cen's site says four wheel drives come with a two speed so yours looks like a goof. Call Cen and have them take care of it. I am positive they will send you the parts for it.

Default Cen will not send it to me !!

well I called Cen, and they said they can't send it to me because this is not under warranty, I thought they have great customer service ??, I offer to pay for the kit, and they still say no[] and the fact that this was a gift with no recipt, I can't ask for a replacement, in other words, I am stuck with this one[] I saw some sites selling the 2 speed conversion kit for $53,

my question is, is $53 too much ? and since this is my first truck, how hard is it to convert it to 2 speed ?? the last thing I want is to buy the kit and don't know how to set it up

I really hope Cen would send it to me, as it will make my life way easier

thanks

WOW that stinks!!!!! Sounds like the great customer service has come to a halt. I was wondering how long it was going to last. Now you have to ask yourself if you have any more problems with the truck what are you going to do?

Well, Some MT2 are sold with only 1 gear in other parts of the world. Saying that, my ATX has 2 gears. But if this is your first truck, I would say just go and enjoy it.

I stripped my 2 gears the first time I told it off-road, and I think the second gear hasn't been running since. Even with that, I still have great fun with it & It flies just the same. Apparently, 2 speed can get damaged easily if you intend to jump your truck a lot.

Personally, I would be happy to take out the 2 speed. Simplisticity means reliability!

thanks for the reply normanski and razoo

so if I stay with one speed, i understand it will not run up to the top speed of 45MPH, is this correct ?
and besides its more durable than 2 speed, is there any advantages in performace, such as higher torque or faster acceleration ?

anybody converted a one speed to a 2 speed ? is it a easy set up ?

thanks again

SoulReaver,

Call me at 714-792-1923 x100. I will make sure you get a new two speed. Get you single speed ready to ship back to us. Send it in an envelope ATTN: Sean. I will send you out the 2-speed as soon as I receive your old transmission. The person you spoke with had a misunderstanding. When someone calls and asks for a $50 dollar 2-speed, we cant just send it out on blind faith. I think the communication lapse was our mistake. We should have told you to send in the single speed for a replacement. So now I am asking you to send it and we will take care of the problem. For your trouble we will also include a free CEN T-shirt.

Send your envelope to :

1800 East Miraloma Suite F
Placentia, CA 92870

Default Cenracing Great customer service

I called Sean at Cenracing today, without any further trouble, he said he will send me the 2 speed tranny as soon as he received my one speed plus a free T-shirt, what a great customer service ! This is my first R/C car ( I fly helis ), but my next car will definitely be a Cen (Geniuses, and TR4), not only that I will recommend all my friends to buy Cen products, simply because Cenracing's great quality and customer service.

way to go Cenracing !! you made a very happy customer

and thanks again Sean

Dan scratches his head and thinks to himself, "I thought I helped to?"

Soulreaver, glad to know that you are once again pleased with your MT2, and glad to see that you are recommending them to friends.

oops, Dan i forgot to thank u my friend i am glad there are a lot of people here that have MT2, because if I have questions about MT2 I know where to ask, i am already thinking about modding some parts, although i didn't even start the engine yet, but can't wait to hear this thing scream, its too bad i don't know any local clubs that run MTs, or else i would love to take it to the track and race it

if you can't find an MT club but there is a car club around you, you could run with them. Just talk to Cen about the parts you need to switch it to a rally car. They can sell you a kit that has all the parts, its like 150 bucks. But that includes the body, tires, CV's, A arms and what not.
