I think that is a common problem of some sort. I have a friend that bought a MGT.. everything about it has been great except it will not shift into second. You can try adjusting the shift point.. but if that does not work I have no clue. He still has not fixed his.. if he does and can tell me what he did I will post it.

Dude on the tranny case there is a rubber plug that covers the hole that is used to access the gears. Look in the manual as it is clearly stated in there!!!

Yep.. what he said. Pull that little rubber plug out and then you will have to turn the spur some and probably roll the truck back and forth until you see a little black hex nut inside there. Then you take an allen wrench and turn that screw. Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think it is counter-clockwise for earlier gear shift.. which if you are not shifting at all that is what you will want right now. I would only do about 90 degree turns then I would test it each time. If it has not started shifting by the time you make 2-3 full 360 degree turns then something else might be wrong.

To get the factory setting for the shift point turn the black set screw in all the way until you just barely feel it bottom out. Then back it out 6 and a half turns. Your trany may be shifting too soon and you may not hear it. It will wind out very quickly even in 2nd gear and may sound like it's still in first. The size of the truck makes it look like it's going slower than it is. When the engine is broken in and leaned out you can't really hear the shift point it's so smooth. Hope this helps.

My MGT was shifting when I bought it last week, Now is not....

I read the manual and I tried moving the shift point conter-clockwise 90 degree and then 90 more but still is all the time at first gear.

I will try what Nitro Flash suggested:
To get the factory setting for the shift point turn the black set screw in all the way until you just barely feel it bottom out. Then back it out 6 and a half turns.

Just a question about that: Turn the black set screw in will be turning it clock-wise, right?

Here is a pdf link that shows with all the instructions ot change the shift point:

Thanks for any help or ideas!

after adjusting and it still wont shift you might want to open the tranny and take a look at the 2 speed shaft. It could be 2 things, the set screw could be spinning on the shaft, or the shaft is broken.

well, it was a brick mailbox. and i got really mad because it wanst shifting. and it was going to overrev because it wouldnt shift into 2nd gear, so i spun trying to stop and smashed into my BRICK mailbox at 40MPH. it cracked the bumper a little. but i could still drive with it. so It shut off when i hit it from the empact. so i started it up right after i hit the mail box and took off and boom it shifts now! never found out why. but try hitting something head on. it works. well at least it did with me!
